don’t treat baby boomer as “old.”

Interesting article on baby boomer as customers.

Baby boomers are the large meal the U.S. population boa constrictor has been digesting, with those Americans born
between 1946 and 1964 numbering about 79 million and making up about 26 percent of the total U.S. population.
A Pew study revealed that the typical boomer believes “old age” does not begin until age 72. And while they are latecomers to the digital revolution, they are closing the gadget and social media gap with younger generations.
A separate study of the demographic by The NPD Group showed that baby boomers usually feel 9 years younger than their chronological age. Also noteworthy, money lost on investments during the recession is creating a growing divide between the haves and have-nots, and some are being forced to put off retirement.

See...people don't want to be treated as if they were old. Except...of course if/when someone in that age range makes a rude comment that can easily be avoided.

I'm in the mid 60's and I certainly don't feel, look or act as a senior. The only time I ask for a senior discount is when I reserve a hotel room. Don't judge us all.

I am only 5 years out of that age range and I doubt I will get the free pass just because I am an old lady ever. Nor would I want it.

I think a comedian (can't recall who) said it best...
"You know you're old when you fall down and nobody laughs."
That, I think, is the point where you have to realize you're old.

Hey buddy after awhile they started expanding the use of the term. But 79 million babies were born during the Baby Boom.  years (1946-1964) and I was one of them I grew up with Black and white TV, Soupy Sales, Woodstock, the Vietnam War, very cool old school cars, and John F. Kennedy as president.

70 is the new 30.  Or so boomers think.  I agree all customers should be greeted with open arms.  Aside from the business dealing I have a real problem with the self-important, self -absorbed boomer generation.  BTW, I am a '65 model.

I was born 6 years before the Baby Boomers started and never had a group I could call my own so I called myself a Baby Boomer anyway.
I now consider myself a part of the "Spare Parts" Generation.

I read a great line in a novel once, don't remember the name.  It went:  "No one really has anything against old people.  They just want them to get out of the way."

My observation since then seems to prove that.

My Mother (always in a good mood) spends her mornings doing comedy at McDonald's before heading to exercise class...before she swims.

Two new knees a new hip a rod in her shoulder and you'd never know it.

The only thing she said to me is please do not let her walk with that cane. What cane? Get up and bake me a cake.
