We also had to stop by da farmers market for some fresh fruits

and also some ono mahi mahi sliders

No trip to da Big Island is complete without a stop at Tex in Honokaa fo some malasadas!!

wuz still hungry so also had some beef stew!!

Some local grindz in Oahu too!

Zippy's is as local as u can get... had some saimin dis time!

Kahuku for some garlic shrimp plates!! Had a nice one at Tita's Grill!!

nudder shrimp truck we had, not as ono as Tita's but still good!

back to Zippys for a mini mahi mahi zip pac! Keiki luv Zippys so much, I think we had it 4 out of the 5 dayz we wuz in Oahu!

Honolulu Chinatown also has ono grindz and dey dam cheap too!

Dinuguan plate, pork in pigs blood stew. yup pigs blood!!

Oh yeah maladas again at the famous Leonard's!!

Keiki killin da spaghetti at Jollibee in Waipahu

Went to da Pearl Ridge farmers market on our last day and had some tacos (at da bottom) and some more poke. Tacos from Santa Cruz Taco (also a forum member here) and dey wuz onolicious!

All in all we had TONS of food and missed alot of good spots like Helenas (cause they were closed during Thanksgiving) and Rainbows Drive Inn (cause we wuz just too full to eat mo), but had a great time.

The Huli chicken looks amazing! What type of seasoning is used? A lot of this food is new to me.

What did you do to The Big Island? It's overcast in Hapuna, and not a cloud in the sky in Hilo!

tasted like some kind soy mix. Every huli chicken stand has their own secret recipe that they use. The flavor really comes from the kiawe wood that its cooked over.

we had great weather on both sides of da islands! only a tiny bit of rain when we were in Hilo, and it was da usual dry n sunny for most of the time in Kona. Place we stayed was off of Hawaii belt road 20mins south of Waimea, so at high altitude and nice n cool at night.

I was going to ask you why you didn't stop at Rainbow Drive-in. They have good plate lunch specials like Roast pork, Shoyu chicken and a teri combo plate. The Huli Huli chicken looked great over the hot coals...........It looks like you all had fun............have you ever stopped at the Side Street Inn for Fried Pork Chops. It's over by Ala Moana ctr behind the Original Pancake house.............Bill

    Looks good ricoboxing!
    Here's my homemade poke.

I'm lucky out here that I can buy fresh ahi at the Japanese market Marukai and they also have the hawaiian poke mix with the seaweed etc. All I usually add is some soy, a little sesame oil and fresh scallions. It is definitely ono!

Do they still have Primo beer? I was over there in the 60's and it was really popular. I almost lived on saimin from some little place in Waipahu.

Not only do they have Primo Beer, but I understand from the advertising I saw on the Islands that they are very active and popular.
