ethnic drinks that really aren't

Following up on the gyro/fortune cookie posting I have done a lot of research on the origine of drinks that are mislabeled. The Martini---was not invented by a guy by that name, no it was invented by Nick and Nora Charles after walking Asta in Central Park. They needed a quick pick me up which knocked them out, and The Manhattan was invented by an Indian Chief by that name when he was trying to make ethanol from his over supply of corn. The Margarita was invented by Sam at Cheers in Boston when he ran out of Dianas. The Old Fashioned was a lot of left-overs from World War 2 that were found in an abandoned warehouse and mixed together and served over ice. A slice of orange was added for effect, and probably for vitamin C. The Mint Julip is a julip that the guys making a lot of money drink. A Whiskey Sour is a drink that tastes sour and would be thrown out if it didn't cost so much and didn't get girls into a mellow mood. A Pina Colada ----ah yes---a pina colada on the beach with a warm sun and a warm partner and you can finish the rest. A Strawberry Daiquiri --- a rum drink invented by Darryl Strawberry when he should have been hitting homeruns over the walls at Shea.

The bits for Whiskey Sour and Pina Colada seem to head heading more towards the origins of life rather than the origins of the drink. Interesting. I will do field research tonight to add some drinks.

Tequila was invented when a worm fell into some cactus juice and fermented. Yummo!

Sitting here sipping a vodka/martini "shaken, not stirred"----actually Father I can not tell a lie it was stirred by my finger which was left over from the finger eating post of a few days ago. I have not eaten a finger since. I have been advised that Grampy, who has written a book on the subject, said there is no such thing as a vodka/martini because a martini must be made with gin. So I sit here with a ? (stirred not shaken ) and wonder what y'all are sipping on the other end of the website. Bill Voss are you picking on scorereader ???????? I think he has a legitimate and profound opinion on the source of "Tequila" by the Champs--a great song of my "Yuth" according to Cousin Vinny.

I find the ginger beer to be the "secret" ingredient, though. pb
