food cost template (excel)

Hi, I am trying to pin down my exact food costs.

I am working in excel to create one from scratch, which is fine, just curious to know if anyone has one already built out and willing to share it?

Right. As it is the almost exactly the same as building one in excel. Is this file be something you would be willing to share? It would save me some time.

i can see how this might help with keeping exact track of the books, especially if it can be imported into something like quiken.....
but a calculator a good pen and a legal pad should do the trick for now

Is there a reference sheet or a general guide for food costs.  I don't mean on how to calculate your own food costs, but a guide or index of what known common food costs are.

For example : its known that a hamburger in actual food, costs McDonald's .34 or that a BigMac is .77   I'm curious if there is a rule of thumb for an omelette or macaroni and cheese or a chicken sandwich.

Yes, I realize that a two egg omelette vs a four egg, or cheap cheese vs. good cheese or the size of the portion for the mac and cheese all plays a part into what food costs end up.  That's why I'm asking for a general generic guide..  or a lists of averages.  That's what I'm looking for.

I make my own to customize to what i need, but if that's too much work simply google for a template in office or open office.

I dont know if THIS helps or not. Its a spreadsheet for catering. You can change the fields as needed. I got it from a BBQ smoker company.

Hi, I am trying to pin down my exact food costs.

Are you trying to cost out a recipe or the total cost of a catered meal service?    These are two different things.

Many of the computer Recipe programs will cost out a recipe and give the cost per serving if food cost is entered & kept up to date.     But an excel sht to cost out a complete meal service will include certain amount of unused items because of the economy of buying in bulk.   Granted in a restaurant these extra items or food may not be an issue if these are regularly used; but this may not be the case for catering.

So I'm not sure of what you are looking for.   A good recipe program will cost out the different recipes and some will even cost out a complete meal.   It just depends on how the food & cost are entered.

The excel meal service cals are more for planning the shopping list for food, service supplies, and incidentals needed to prepare the meal.

I agree with hello good tacos. When I need an excel template for my restuarant, I just google. The web is great for any information. Saves time and I don't have to crack my head.
