help - lunch near PA Turnpike in Western PA near Pittsburgh Sun, 12/26/10 8:02 AM (permalink)
Greetings

I'm looking for a recommendation for lunch later this week preferably near the PA Turnpike.  I'm looking for something in suburban Pittsburgh anywhere from the OH/PA border to New Stanton.  I prefer a restaurant with good homemade soup and/or sandwiches.  I've looped through the Burgh on other highways and gotten back on the Turnpike on the East side so as long as its close to a highway I will venture off the pike.

Thank you in advance for your recommendations

I missed this post earlier; I hope it's not too late.

There's an instance of Primanti's pretty close to the Harmarville exit of I-76.

Fairly near the Monroeville exit, there's the Rivertowne Pour House, a brewpub with a good sandwich selection.

May be a bit far, but about 4 1/2 miles from the Irwin exit is Persichetti's in Jeanette.

Excellent sandwiches and Italian, and a very good wedding soup.  Never had a bad there.  Really an easy drive up 30 East.

The homemade soups is what is causing me problems.  I will keep thinking but haven't come up with anything, yet.

It's in Wheeling W VA but Figaretti's is just off I-70 as you come through the tunnel. Excellent Italian. If you are coming from Cleveland (I guess you DID say the turnpike) there are a couple of restaurants around Beaver and Ellwood City that specialize in Steak Salad, strips of grilled steak on a green salad with french fries and melted cheese and served with poppy seed dressing. Excellent!

The next time we're up in Pittsburgh, I'll have to take pictures of a meal there.

The home made spaghetti is excellent, as is the fried zuchini appetizer.  I also love their fried fish sandwich, and the chicken parmesan. They sometimes have a coconut cream pie dessert made by a local lady in Jeanette, but the last few times we were there, we were too late and got the shut-out.
