hot dog carts in San Diego

I'm trying to start a hotdog cart business in san Diego and I am hitting a lot of road blocks! I saw not too long ago that someone had gotten the contract to run one in front of I believe a Lowes Home Improvement store. I would love to see the cart and buy a dog! I found a cart online at All American Hot Dogs that sells a cal. regulations approved cart for $9K! anyone know of a cheaper one? I see San Diego hates carts and does not want them here, I'd love to talk to someone that is running a successful cart here. Sam

A Woody's franchisee had one at the Lowes in Santee, but he went out of business awhile back. Be careful in San Diego or anywhere in California. They are outlawing steam carts and all dogs will have to be grilled. I'm not sure when this takes effect though. Find out for sure before you invest in any cart.

So I am assuming this goes for boiling the hot dogs as well? ouch that is going to suck because I will have to convert my cart to a grill

OMG you can find plenty in CA without the shipping cost and I am not impressed with All American. You can find nice carts at Ebay or Craigslist. Shoot, for 9K you could probably even find a concession trailer (used) and loaded for that! Don't jump at the first thing you see. shop around. There are so many styles and prices to choose from. find a style that best suits your needs. Do you know how many pans you want or if you want a grill or gridle attached?? how about sinks? do you want it customed? do your homework. All American wants 9K when their carts are a 1/3 of that price? what is it??? Gold plated?

I put about $200 more into it and made it the exact way I want it. It has 3 burners and 3 really big steam pans All enclosed. It came with a cooler, plenty of storage, sink, and passed all the health codes. I can post pictures if you want to see what I got for the money. Make sure you call your local health department and have them send you the requirments for your cart. Even if you find a cheap one on Craigslist that doesn't quite match the requirments, it is not too expensive to upgrade. I am pretty sure I could resale my cart for $4000 or more.
