hot dogs at a car dealership Fri, 12/7/07 2:49 AM (permalink)
I was considering passing out my card at alot of big car dealerships in my city. Has anyone ever gave hotdogs away at a car dealership? and what would be a good flat fee? Thanks

As a radio promotion guy, I always recommend free hot dogs at promotional events. It is a simple gesture that attracts families and keeps them around for a few extra minutes, plumping the crowd and adding to the excitement ... not to mention the goodwill.

I never negotiated the dogs, but there'd have to be a feasible pricing schedule.

That seems to be a pretty common thing here in Knoxville. About any Saturday several dealers are giving away free dogs, cokes and coffee. There is a catch though. The minutes you step up to the dog stand, you are surrounded by salesmen trying to do their job. It is not relaxing although I am sure that is the purpose of the free dogs.

Having been involved in more Car dealership promotions than I care to remember ( 25 years of radio ) The real reason a good car dealership gives away a free lunch is the timing. When a customer kicks the tires and negotiates a deal many times he or she will say I'm going to lunch and I'll come back after I eat. Boom the salesmen jumps in with let me buy you lunch. We have lunch here come on and have a dog and chips and a coke with me and we will talk while we eat lunch. At that point the finance people would run the paper work and lay it right on the lunch table. All the customer had to do was sign on the bottom line.If you could keep them on the lot you may be able to close the deal.

It always seemed that just advertising free hotdogs brought in a bunch of people looking for something free and not even thinking about a new or used car.

PS Most vendors in our area priced their dogs at the regular price and the dealership picked up the tab at the end of the day. But again they didn't advertise the dogs and they were served in the lounge for the staff including the shop personal, and select customers. It was a good deal for all involved especially on a cold snowy winter Saturday. It did get to the point that people would drive by the dealership looking for the vendors rig and stop for a freebe, but the numbers were far less than if we did a remote and announced free hotdogs.

You may check with your local Harley Dealership

          San Jose Harley

They usually do all sorts of pormotions and evnts during the year, and they may be interested in a good hot dog cart.

Fremont also has a good H-D dealership, they have a H.O.G club there.

I actually live a couple streets from the San Jose Harley Dealership. I didn't even think about them. I will drop my card by the Fremont and San Jose sites. Thanks!

I was in the cycle shop on Pine and Polk in the City a couple of weeks ago. They were giving out dogs. I had never seen it before. I would have tried a dog but I had just eaten eggs, home fries, and b&g at Bob's.
