I am looking for some help. Am going on a cruise out of LaPorte at the end of the month. Have tried to figure out where to stay/eat the day before the cruise departs. Will be coming into Bush. Can anybody help on public transportation {I've tried the websites, and they aren't particularly helpful] and a place to stay with access to interesting Roadfood? Thanks in advance. I enjoy Texas, but Houston is an area I've never visited.

Public transportation in Houston not good and La Porte is not a part of the Metro System. You can't get there from here really applies. If your cruise line does not provide a shuttle then you only have two options, rental or taxi. Yellow Cab has an exclusive contract with IAH so you could probably call them and they can tell you what it would cost to go to La Porte. Enterprise Rental has an office in La Porte and will shuttle you to the terminal when you return the car.

Most hotel/motel chains have units in La Porte/Deer Park area, they are almost connected, so finding a place to stay should not be a problem just where you can find the best deal.

El Ranchero on Main St. has really good mexican food, especially their breakfast.

Hoppies BBQ/Cajun is also very good. They are on the same street a little further west.

Use the B4Ueat and ask for Pasadena/Deer Park/La Porte area if you see anything intresting let me know and I will tell you what i know.

Since you are going on a cruise I didn't mention seafood.

Try to change your flight to Hobby otherwise count on a very high cab fare.

That is for sure. IAH is at least an hour from the port.

It depends on the airline. Hobby mainly services Southwest, some other airlines have service but is mostly regional. It would be worth a try La Porte is only about 30 min. form Hobby.

Delta does Hobby. I have flown directly from Knoxville to there several times.

Houston Hobby is much easier to get around in, get out of and rent a car or cab. International is a zoo, crowded and a long way from the port.

Thats good to know I have not flown out of Hobby in years because the last time I checked most airlines would only fly around Texas some Louisiana and Oklahoma. Hobby is 15 min. from my house.

It would be great if Koblak could change their flight.

thanks to you all. we can't change the flights, but we will go the rental car route, and el ranchero looks great, texianjoe. up until two years ago my parents had a winter home in pharr[mcallen]. i was still working then, and my winter treat was to fly down from snowy, cold, upstate ny in february and spend a week or so with them. the first night we'd eat out at a local tex-mex place at my insistence.

sundancer, i know first hand how important it is during the grieving process to reach out to others. i am pleased to be on the receiving end. peace.

Just to update those of you who helped: we had breakfast at El Ranchero in LaPorte, and it was great. It looked as if the entire LaPorte Police Department also eats there.

We stayed at the LaQuinta in LaPorte and thoroughly enjoyed supper at the fish restaurant that shares their parking lot. Great crawfish gumbo. And shrimp, of course. Thanks again.

Glad you had a good time. You know you can't go wrong at a place where cops and the health dept. eat.

By the way. How was the cruise?

the cruise was fine as it provided two things we desperately needed: warmth and sun. we expect to have snow for easter. it is snowing here now.
