interesting article on a NY hero

By Ed Levine about one of the best Italian heros available in NYC. I always said the bread was one of the most important parts; one reason I never understood that place in Atlantic City. I have not been to this place but it is now at the top of the list.

I guess the meats must be good at that Salumeria, but he strongly suggests that you bring your own bread. pb

If you read the full article, you'd see that there's hope that they will be offering the same bread in the future. Another place, Lioni's in Dycker Heights in Brooklyn, provides bread from several bakeries and you can select the bread for your sandwich order.

Sorry, it's talked about so much I thought it could go without saying. White House Subs may be an institution but the bread is horrible.

Thanks. There used to be a place called Atlantic City Subs down here. They boasted that their bread came from Atlantic City. It closed before I ever tried it, but I had imagined that AC'ers had a high standard for sub bread.

Apparently, the bread is bad at this place too. I'm supposed to bring my bread then tell them I will pay more if they use it? Oh, and the "watch them" to make sure they give me the good meats and not some rail brand? Sounds like a great place. Maybe just buying some meat to go and admitting they aren't a great sandwich place is the way to go. Baffling review.

makes me glad to have the Italian Store in Arlington, VA. Brings me back to the days when subshops were deli's.



(yes, the apostrophe in "deli's" is appropriate for use as the plural in this case. Without the apostrophe, it's "delis" which could lead to confusion. According to MLA rules, "deli's" as plural for "deli" is correct as the apostrophe clarifies the word.)
