Western New York's most popular beer. When my Uncle returned from four years of fighting in WW-ll this is all he wanted ......... The year they stopped brewing this brand he died of complication from a wound he receiver at the Battle of the Bulge the worst battle in terms of losses - to the American Forces in WWII. ...I can remember Western New York, this beer, and a thing called a "peach basket" which I used when I ran across the street to the saloon to get it filled with ice cold Iroquois Beer for my dear uncle............ I was 6 years old and no ID or money was required, every one knew who the beer was for. The factory workers (his old friends) that sat at the bar would buy the beer and fill my peach basket. Good things come and go and being able to remember them is a gift. I've decided to move this post to http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10144 it has more to do with old beer we remember and STUFF

quote:Originally posted by David_NYC John, About the people behind Deutschmacher: after purchasing a short dated package of Deutschmacher Bratwurst in a dollar store in the Bronx, I decided to find out who is behind the brand. There was no name or address on the package. I often found them in New England. Well, the brand is owned by Tyson Foods via Russer and IBP, per Governor Pataki: http://www.ny.gov/governor/press/02/feb8_4_02.htm The package had a USDA plant number of 5222, which is the Russer plant in Buffalo. I don't know what the history of the Deutschmacher brand is, but Tyson closed some plants in Maine and shifted production to New York State. Just like how the Sabrett production moved to New York State. These zombie brands are getting curious. Take Narragansett Beer. Some guy in Rhode Island bought the brand from Pabst Brewing over the summer. The stuff was not brewed in New England for a generation. I found this out after buying the last six pack, still brewed by Pabst, in a store in Massachusetts. Then, I found another six pack in Rhode Island with the new packaging, now contract brewed by High Falls Brewing (the old Genessee) in Rochester, NY. When I got them home and tried one of each batch, they tasted completely different. Even more curious, the Rochester stuff tastes just like Genessee Cream Ale that you can buy in that liquor store on US22 West in Union for $10.99 for a 30-pack. ALso, The Mapleleaf Franks, from Russers also went to hog dog heaven once Tyson bought IBP out, since IBP bught Russers previously... See my post - Maple Leafs are dead.. AND, They arent the same company bearing the same name.. That company is a Canadian company and they advised me about the demise of Maple Left FRANKS, as they were known as. Still boo-boo-ing over the death of them! And STILL trying to find a good sub.. I have a couple posts about maple leafs... and had some good suggestions, still searching... hebrew national is it for now, until i find another..
