There was an article in the Times a few days ago about a junk fish tournament held recently of the coast of New Jersey. The three fish mentioned were Sea Robin, Dogfish, and Skate, all of which are usually returned to the water dead or alive by most fishermen. What caught my eye in the story was an aside that mentioned that Dogfish is commonly used as the fish in fish and chips. Do any of you folks have any knowledge of such a practice here in the USA?

Cheers, John

It wouldn't surprise me. A dogfish is a type of shark, and shark is good eatin'.

How about the flying carp that is currently invading the Illinois River that they are trying to keep out of Lake Michigan.  Those rascals litterly leap in the boat and I have seen pics of them hitting people driving the boats.  They get pretty large and it seems that they are thousands of them.  Perhaps they are working on ways to use them commercially?

I have never ever seen anything like them.  Apparently they are disturbed by the sounds of the boat and they leap several feet into the air.
