There are two Krystals in Daytona, one on the way in and one on Ridgewood Avenue.

Krystals are big in Knoxville. They are great after a evening of libation. They are sliders but taste very good. I do not know if I consider them a burger but they are a neat sandwich. I like them with cheese.

My wife and I LOVE Krystal. Since we don't have any locations down here in south Florida, we try to hit as many Krystals as possible when we are traveling to and from races.

There's nothing like putting in an order for 12-20 hamburgers, depending on how hungry we are

I have the same problem, Bluemaxx. My last Krystal pigout was when Mrs QFan and I were on the way back from Charleston, SC last fall. Stopped in Jax overnite, then hit the road for the last leg home early the next morning. I pulled off I-10 at Lake City and had 6 Krystal CB'S for breakfast. Mrs QFan nearly rebelled, but she finally gave in to the inevitable (guess that's why we're still married; she knows my roadfood urges pretty well!). Man, they tasted good at 8:00 AM. Would do it again in a heartbeat grease and all!!!

Down here in West Tn. they are all over. I like them with cheese and a big cold drink. You can usually taste them for several days.

So ONE more time AIN'T really going to hurt that bad...

In past visits to numerous Krystal restaurants over the years, I am sometimes able to convince the "server" to give me two meat patties instead of one in a "special order" scenario. Pay more, of course, but not as much as a "regular" double with that danged piece of extra bread in the middle. Of course I have always requested extra onions, pickles, & mustard when I did this. Try it sometimes. I think you will like it.

My wife managed a Krystal in Mississippi when first met.

She got me hooked on the Chili Cheese Fries... Disgustingly delicious!

They were very busy while she had control. I think they are ALL 24-hour restaurants...

After she left - the new management did not maintain the focus on the customer... I believe that one (in Pascagoula) closed down.

To make this even worse, when we head up to Daytona for the Rolex 24 Hour race, my wife and I stay at the track late and then hit the 24 hr Krystal down the street. Then, we hit the 24 hr Krispy Kreme for a quick 6 and them head back to the hotel (quickly, I might add...heehee! )

There IS one Krystal location in south florida that I know of...
and that is in Ft. Lauderdale, on Sunrise Blvd....

I just went there last week for my last pit stop during my 4 day Florida trip... right before I drove to the FLL airport to catch my plane home to NJ......(where the nearest White Castle is an hour away from me, but there are no Krystals)

I definitely remember the guy/(gal) who waited on me in Krystal, Ft. Lauderdale.....he had long fake eyelashes, and big earrings..
and he said "here you go , sweetheart", when my order was ready...
I told him "hey, it's no fair! Your eyelashes are longer than mine!" (true story)
.....it was like something out of the "big momma's house"movie, except this guy was in good shape...

In my own opinion, there is not a whole lot of difference. They taste very similar.

You have White Castle folks who prefer the White Castles and Krytal folks who like the Krystals. I personally like them both.

We only have Krystals in Knoxville but I think White Castle has a better menu. More extensive anyway.

I like both too, because they're not the same.We don't have Krystal up here in Chicago but i've eaten plenty of them in Memphis and SC.I asked this question long ago.Does anyone remember the Krystal King?It was a full sized double cheeseburger with shredded lettuce and secret sauce like a Big Mac or Big Boy.This was in the early 70's.I've searched but no results.I do see Steak N Shake has moved into Myrtle Beach but they're way up N near Barefoot Landing. So i probably won't visit. We're in Pawleys Island.

    Paul,

You are not that far from Nashville where you can have a White Castle and a Krystal within minutes of each other. I don't know if there are any other slider convergence zones.

I think WC will win the taste test.

I have had White Castles in Nashville many times. Perhaps they are a little bit better. Their menu is certainly more extensive.

Personally I enjoy both White Castle's and Krystals. I think I would classify them more as a sandwich than a burger.

There's a WC and Krystal within a few blocks of each other in Bowling Green Ky on US 231 (Scottsville Rd) just off I-65 (exit 22 north). I've tried and like them both but favor the WC's a little more (I love onions on burgers) !

Krystal puts onions on their burgers.Raw not steamed.I like Krystal but like White Castle i bought a package of frozen cheeseburgers at Meijer and they went to the garbage.Just horrible, and nothing like a fresh Krystal.

I have always loved White Castle. I looked forward to the day I would finally meet a Krystal burger. I was in Hattiesburg last year. I saw a Krystal. I pulled in. I ordered. I tasted. Sweet buddy Jesus were they foul! I couldn't even eat them.

I have blocked the experience mostly out of my mind, but I remember an excess of bun (White Castle is perfectly proportioned), and an overall sourness, nay, almost rancidity. No steamed onions, no delicate slipperiness, just a tiny (thank goodness) amount of nameless protein, a buttload of yellow mustard, and a great wad of cottony bun. I threw them away, heartsore. I'm still not over it.

Love 'em, but there's only one in LA, as far as I know. And I can get WC only in the frozen food dept. at the grocery. I always stop for a few whenever I see a place. Bring 'em on, baby, both sorts!

I have tried and like both Krystal's and WC. WC buns have more slide, where as Krystal's buns are drier and more plump. Love those raw Onion's........Joe

Try breakfast a Krystal. The bacon is crisp and good. They have a full list of eggs (scrambled or fried) bacon, sausage, grits, biscuit, toast. There is one just down from my office, so I pick up breakfast there often. Really cheap, too.

I think Krystals uses dried/rehydrated onions, because I've occasionlly gotton one that is still crunchy. I was raised on WC with many fine memories but there are only Krystals here so thats where I get my slilder fix. If there was one of each in the area I'd be hard pressed to chose. As alike as BK and McD's they are as different as well.

I do not know what some of you have got but according to Krystal propaganda, they steam the onions.

Regardless, I like both Krystal and WC.

Well, Sundancer, I am willing to give it another go, based on all these reputable table athletes discussing their love for said fast food burger.

I do remember that the Hattiesburg Krystal was in serious disarray, and the only employee in sight was a sullen lump of a youth name of Fabian. Hell I would be a sullen lump if I were named Fabian as well.

Maybe the onions are a "little" cooked but are big pieces compared to what WC shakes out of a bag.The WC near work consistently sucks at 4 am.Dried up cardboard in cardboard boxes. There was a lady who ran the overnight shift a few years ago who kept the burgers fresh and steamed. Now some ex-homeless guy is running the shift.Terrible.
