lunch for a quarter.....

ok, ive seen mentioned the lunch for a quarter idea in a recent post, and i remember reading about it in an older post somewhere but dont remember where it was....

what was the gist of the promotion? the quarter had to be 1962 or older, and im assuming a quarter older then that is worth a few dollars ??

what other promotions are everyone doing ? ide like to see them all in one thread instead of hopscotching around..... thanks for playing the re-run game with me :)

Sorry but this is not a good promotion. Anyone with a lick of sense isn't going to give up a silver coin for lunch unless they are brain dead. It is funny I admit. But most people would consider it a trick and the vendor as a con artist. It's a flat out hustle bottom line. In fact the vendor may become the guy that ends up with the stolen coins from all the local home burglaries. Again not a good reputation to have as a food vendor.
    sorry just my thoughts

Dr of BBQ ... Anyone with a lick of sense isn't going to give up a silver coin for lunch unless they are brain dead...

Lots of folks out there are without a lick of sense or are brain dead. My daughter has worked a cash register for the past over 4 years. She buys the old  and foreign coins from the till at the end of her shifts.

As of this evening she has collected:
    $1 Silver Certificates X 12
    1928 $20 Gold Certificate X 1
    Silver Dollars (coins) X 3
    Silver Half Dollars X 119
    Silver Quarters X 4
    Silver Dimes X 30
    Steel Pennies X 2
Not to mention all the wheat pennies, bicentennial coins, $2 bills (she loves those alot... 2 of our customers pay in $2 bills often and she gets them... over $200 worth), Susan Bs and the "gold" Sacajaweas. One of her customers gave her a whole roll ($25) of the new Andrew Johnson dollar coins (still wrapped up in the original paper tube). She just likes to collect them.

    Lorna,
That's something entirely different. rummaging thru the till to collect the old or rare coins is one thing but offering lunch for a quarter (silver coin) is totally different. One other thought you can go to the bank and buy $2.00 bills. I hate them there is no slot for them (in the drawer) and they will never be worth more than two bucks. I always heard they were bad luck. LOL
But that is just MHO. And everyone has an opinion.
    LOL

My daughter actually TOLD some kid not to spend a very, very old coin. Even told his what it was worth. Stupid kid (teen) did anyway. It was coins the moron had inherited from his grandparents. My daughter put the coins aside in her till and bought them out at the end of her shift. My point is LOTS of dummies out there who would part with a silver coin for anything and think nothing of it.

BTW, my daughter thinks the silver quarter promo is a great idea. She would like us to do that so she can get all the silver coins. We won't. Besides, I would just add the coins to MY collection of old coins.

Ok so that's differant from grabing the coins and runing to a coin shop to sell them. So with that in mind here is how I would do this promotion.

Make up a sign that reads as follows:
"I collect silver coins if you have a silver coin (Quarter) I'll buy you lunch in exchange for it. "

Then your being right up front about your intentions and it dosen't look like your trying to give a customer a fast shuffle.

I was just thinking if I did this in the area I work in, in two days I would have people trying to pawn things at my drive up window. LMAO

Sounds like a "sideline" to your food vending... Pawn your TV and get a deal on a meal!

Yea, how good can the food be when they are trying to stock up on silver quarters?

I guess there's a kind of Willy Wonka's "golden ticket" aspect to this promotion because if you are not a collector, then you can look in your pocket and maybe have a cheap lunch.

I dunno why '62. Quarters '64 and younger have the silver, in my experience.

And really, how much is a silver quarter worth?? Do people really cash them in or save them? When I find one, I just save it.
