Only thing I add crackers to is Chili (Along with onions and cheese)... And thats only if I added a bit too much HEAT when making it... As for soups, NEVER... If they need crackers to add substance, they're not worthy enough to eat in my book!
I never add crackers to chili, no matter how hot
and I add 'em to soup only if it's a mediocre soup. Except for a few cream type soups, the ones I make at home tend to be quite chunky, probably should be considered stews. I like a good crusty, buttered roll or the like as an accompaniment, not crackers.
Crackers are served with the gumbo at my favorite oyster bar. I don't use the cocktail sauce on the oysters (too overpowering) and I don't put the crackers in the gumbo but I sometimes I finish the meal by dipping the crackers in the cocktail sauce.
