You've probably got that right...and I was really being nice, too, since my usual quotes at home and work are along the lines of "That's it! I've had it with you!"

AND THAT IS MY PROBLEM. I have to be certain with 100% reliability that anything I eat does not contain ANY mayonaisse at all !!! They have vegetarian restaurants...they have gluten free restauarants. My idea of heaven would be to find a mayo free restaurant.

Maybe you could have your meals all microwaved, so any trace of raw egg would be cooked.

Why can't some restaurant chain introduce a "mayo-free" zone where I do not have to live with the constant fear there is mayo-contamination. The sub shops seem to be the worst because they never clean the knives off and the counter is always contaminated with this gross substance or even worse --- tuna! How can anyone eat this putrid material that isn't even suited as cat food???

Please, someone help????

Many years ago a co worker got a sandwich and brought it back
to the job site, proceeded to eat the sandwich and it was crawling
with maggots. He never had mayonnaise again.

Even if it worked, I couldn't do that...I abhor the look and the taste of the stuff too.

In my opinion everything is a matter of taste. Sometimes I like mayo and sometimes I like salad dressing. I prefer mayo in my slaw and I prefer salad dressing with my sandwiches.

I would never challenge anyone on their taste regardless of what it is or what I personally prefer.

Mayonnaise, kept in its place, is fine stuff. I can't imagine a World without Mayonnaise. Crab cakes need a bit of Mayo, there is no sauce Tartar without Mayo, our Waldorf salad needs Mayo, also tuna salad, chicken salad, and best of all, a peanut butter and Mayo sandwich on cheap white bread ! It is disgusting to see a sandwich that calls itself a Grinder or sub or muffalatta that contains Mayo - that's the sort of thing that gives Mayo a bad name.

Cheers, John

I suppose mayo has its place but personally I use miricle whip mainly because its what I was raised on. Altough I'm careful about what mayo based foods I get from restaurants I'm not overly picky about its use.

I'll have to reread all the threads now that I've had this revelation.

Ok, so I don't know how to reply to a post (the previous post was me trying to reply to the PB & mayo)

I've never heard of anyone else even willing to try that sandwich!!! It's been years since I've had one!!! Memories...would that be a low carb sandwich????

Ingredients: Soybean oil, eggs, water, vinegar, salt, oleoresin paprika, and natural flavors.

Duke's Mayonnaise is made from Mrs. Duke's original recipe. This recipe has always been completely sugar-free. It is all-natural, preservative-free, gluten-free*, casein-free (no milk proteins), and Kosher (Orthodox Union).

For those who like good mayo, especailly mayo of the European variety, try Kewpie, a Japanese mayo that can be found in most Asian stores. I have friends from Belgium and the Netherlands who say it is very close to what they remember and now buy Kewpie instead of buying the European brands online. Of course, for them the primary use for mayo is for french fry dipping.

(This is from http://www.dukesmayo.com )

One of the better (best?) store-bought mayos, in my opinion.

Woof! And I thought I set off a firestorm or two. To the original post here:

I don't know from mayonnaise, I never liked it, but to the original idea of contamination, and so forth, at chains, I think most burger joints and the like will be using squirt bottles, or packaged (a la catsup) stuff... It's the $$$ french places that are likely to be oozing that stuff in the kitchen like the talent in a well, unhh, X-rated pic.

I'm sure mayonnaise in low doses is still not appealing to me and others... Just wash it down with more beer, or whatever. It KIND of is, but kind of isn't an animal product. I'm sure I have had a burger and not noticed the difference between mayo and grill grease.

BUT... Here's a more interesting question: If it's the egg yolks that disturb you about mayo, then I guess that means, if you were at a millionaire's garden party brunch at Pebble Beach, or on Hawaii, you would throw up on the table when the waiter sat your nice big plate of Eggs Benedict in front of you. Right? Hollandaise is even richer than mayo! Eggs!! Oh no!! Butter!! That's an oil!! The eggs are poached in vinegar!! Lord Almighty.
