Cream Soda - Sat, 01/8/05 9:57 PM

I was not a big fan of creme soda, but today I bought a bottle of Virgil's Creme Soda at the Knoxville Earthfare and was blown away! It is micro-brewed made with real vanilla. It tasted much better than the creme soda I had tasted previously that came in a can. I was wondering if anyone had a favorite creme soda that they would recommend or if you are also a fan of Virgil's? I understand they make root beer too.

Never heard of Virgil's, but I'll keep an eye out. My favourite cream soda is IBC. Although Stewart's runs a close second. Faygo used to make a pretty decent one, but their quality has gone way down the last eight years or so. A&W if I'm dyin' for one and I'm someplace that doesn't carry the good stuff.

I love cream soda. The problem here in San Diego, I can not find it for sale. I have found it in different places, Idaho, Washington State, Nevada, Utah. Rex in San Diego.

Thanks, St. Matt. I enjoyed looking at all the different creme sodas! I didn't know there were so many varieties! I will give IBC a try Felix. I think I have seen it around here!

I'm a big fan of Dr. Brown's cream soda. Here's a review (at the bottom of the attached link). http://www.bevnet.com/reviews/drbrowns/

I also like the IBC cream soda, as well as their root beer. Definitely a step above the regular store brands. I'll keep an eye open for Virgil's, but it may just be sold in a limited area.

I always loved Hoffman's and Cotts cream soda. Here in Ohio they call some red stuff cream soda. Goodness only knows what it might taste like.

Bj's Wholesale was selling mini kegs of Virgil's rootbeer complete with tap. It was an excellent root beer and a big crowd pleaser especially among the kids. Not too carbonated but excellent rich flavor. I saw the kegs of virgil's cream soda at a World Market in Ann Arbor but have not seen the flavor any where else.

It's just called Red Cream Soda and it tastes pretty much the same, but with a hint of strawberry. I think IBC makes Red Cream Soda, but i'm not sure. Usually i just get the cheap stuff at H-E-B.

I grew up drinking Barq's red creme soda. Now the only time I have red creme soda is when I eat at Dixie Chili, (a local Cincinnati style chili parlour in Newport, KY.) Nostalgia, no doubt. I don't remember ever ordering anything at Dixie but "Three way, two chili cheese sandwiches, large red pop," going on 40 years now.

I had Barq's Diet red creme soda last year while in Cincy. Sure wish I could find it around here. It was really good. I don't wareally want to order it because of cost for shipping but when I go again next July you can bet I'll be bringing a case or 2 home with me.

While Faygo's quality has gone down a bit since they were bought out, they do now produce a line of sodas that are high quality. They come in glass bottles and use cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.

When I was in Scottsdale, AZ for Spring Training I had some delicious Vanilla Cream soda locally made by the Cider Mill Soda Company.  http://cidermillmarket.com/soda-bar/  If you poke around the site you'll find this company has roots in Michigan.
