I have been to Roddity's in Chicago with all 3 wives and a live-in girl friend. The food quality is constant even if love life has not been. It is located in Greektown along Halstad as well.

I like Greek Islands and it is a great place to go with a big loud group. However, for the quality of the food, I have to say I like The Parthenon just down the street a little bit better.

BTW if you are on Halstead you HAVE to stop into the Pan Hellenic Bakery (I think the address is 322 S. Halstead) and get a pound or two of Louie's cookies. These are the best cookies I've ever had. Basically it is two cookies that are a cross between a brownie and a chocolate crinkle sandwiched together with some chocolate cream/frosting. My wife and I love them so much that we have even called and had them shipped overnight to Ohio.

We briefly had a Greek restaurant in our little town and I dined there often until it closed. I remember delicious pastas and pizzas with lots of feta, olives, etc. They also had really wonderful iced tea.

I almost always order the Mousaka, which is similar to lasagna but has eggplant and potatoes along with the ground meat in the layers and the sauce is a bechamel. It's always fun to order the saganaki (Kasseri cheese)as they flame it tableside and everyone yells "Opa!" My wife loves the stuffed grape leaves (dolmades) and the greek meatballs (keftethes) and we sometimes get the spinach and cheese pastries (spinakopita)to split as well. Usually you can get some good seafood in greek restaurants too. One thing that I almost never get in a good greek place is the gyro meat becasue to me it usually isn't that much different from what you can get at the fast food places or from street vendors. I am not personally big on greek desserts as I don't care that much for honey. But a nice Ouzo or two will aid digestion. Three or four and you won;t even remember eating

We always liked the Parthenon for dolmades, pastitsio (noodle casserole) and roditys rose wine. And baklava.
Diana's grocery was also good.

If you make it to the 'burbs of Chciago. Try Mykonos in Niles, not a picturesque area but the food is good. Espec. nice to sit in the garden on a warm summer's night...

When possible, I try to eat at as many of them on Halsted as possible, and not have to choose. Parthenon was great...ditto on the bakery. But we sometimes eat part of a meal at one place and finish at another!

I went to Roddity's a couple summers ago while in Chicago and it was fantastic. Love the garlicky melitzanosalata (cold eggplant dish) and the bbq lamb ribs were falling off the bone tender.

I have actually seen this restaurant on FoodTV.....$40 a Day was the show to be exact. I took a mental note of it if i ever do go to Chicago.

The other restaurant i'd like to try in Chicago is the Frontera Grill (Rick Bayless of Mexico's "One Plate at a Time")

The Partheon is a good choice if you like the standards. When last I was there with my wife's family we did the family style meal. It is a good way to get all the old chestnuts like saganaki, spanakopita and moussaka. It is good Greek comfort food.
