Hi, all!

This is my first posting here--I just discovered this site and boy, am I glad I did!

I hope someone can help me out with a recipe. I have a friend who is desperately trying to find the recipe for the Russian salad dressing from the White Coffee Pot restaurants. It might be White Coffee Pot Jr., I'm not clear about this.

Anyone from Maryland who might know this? I'm not sure if WCP even existed in other states.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Never heard of it, but welcome to Roadfood! I can ask my cousins in Maryland later today. IF they know, I'll post it.

I had never heard of the White Coffee Pot chain until this morning; I was doing a Google search regarding defunct White Castle clones ( Little Tavern, White Tower, Speedy Service System etc. ) and came across a mention of this outfit. According to Wikipedia, WCP was a Baltimore based coffee shop chain with 33 locations, all in Maryland. The company got its start in the '40s and the last one closed in 1993.

Heye Veg,

Appears someone else was trying to figure out the Russian dressing she loved as a teenager in the 60s and 70s.  Not White Coffee Pot specific, but give it a quick test shot and see if it's what you remember.

  • 3 mounded Tablespoons Miracle Whip salad dressing (if you want a thinner dressing, add a little milk now and beat it in well)
  • 1 Tablespoon white wine vinegar
  • 1 Tablespoon sweet pickle (gherkin) juice from the jar
  • 1 Teaspoon sugar
  • 2 mounded Tablespoons ketchup
Blend in:
  • 3 Small sweet pickles (gherkins) minced finely
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste (the more, the better)
Cover and refrigerate.
