The Orphan Masters Son, Adam Johnson, in short, it's about North Korea, if only 10% of this book is factual, there is a Hell on earth.

This afternoon I listened to a local Minneapolis/St. Paul radio station KSTP AM 1500 Joe Soucheray's Garage Logic. His guest for the first hour was Vince Flynn. Kill Shot is a new Mitch Rapp CIA thriller coming out this Tuesday. It is a prequel in the series and a follow up after American Assassin. Flynn has been going through chemo treatment for prostate cancer that had metastasized into his bones. The good news is he claims he is beating it and another Mitch Rapp novel should come out this November and it will be back to present day.

Right now I'm reading what might perhaps be the most off the wall book I've ever bought:

The book of Genesis...ILLUSTRATED by R Crumb...!!!

$25 new...

For those that have never seen the Big Brother & The Holding Company record album cover art that Robert Crumb did back in the 1960's...you'll be in for a very interesting experience...

And for those that have seen the album cover, the expressive drawing style will be familier...

I've heard great things about the R. Crumb Book of Genesis, BackRhodes.

I just finished The Comedy is Finished, Donald Westlake's last novel. It was published by the Hard Case Crime imprint. No one knew the novel existed until the crime writer Max Alan Collins found a copy of the manuscript Westlake had sent him in the early 80s. The story revolves around a Bob Hope-like comedian who gets kidnapped by a radical group. I really enjoyed it.

I remember this episode very well.  He went into the bank vault to have a quiet lunch and read.  What I don't understand is why do I or some of us remember this episode so well.  Was it a light bulb moment? Utter despair?  I do not remember any of other episodes.

Porkbeaks,
All I see from the utube link is the final scene.    Perhaps I wasn't clear on my statement concerning the bank vault.  I remember him being a teller of some sort and he escaped to the bank vault for his lunch break and to read.  When he came out he found the destruction.  My memory is certainly not what it use to be and I am certain I have only seen it once.  Do you remember his profession?

My apologies. I thought you meant the scene where he broke his glasses. He was a bank teller and escaped the bomb by spending his lunch break in the vault reading. It is a most memorable episode. It aired in the 1st season of The Twilight Zone in 1959. I was 12 years old and the H-bomb thing was a pretty serious subject at the time what with the duck-and-cover drills in school. Also, the show itself was very popular in my house; a welcome change from all the westerns and detective stuff. We never missed an episode. Here's the link to the whole thing.

I'm a huge fan of Robert B. Parker and was sad when he died two years ago. Last year his estate announced that two writers would be taking over two of his series characters, Spenser and Jesse Stone.

At the library yesterday, I found "Robert B. Parker's Killing the Blues," the first Jesse Stone novel written by Michael Brandman. I'm enjoying it but I find that Brandman's Jesse Stone is a bit more unpleasant than Parker's Jesse Stone.

Mosca, I really loved Backstage Passes and Backstabbing Bastards. Kooper tells such great stories. Have you read Mid-Life Confidential? It's written by the members of The Rock Bottom Remainders, a band comprised of authors such including Stephen King, Barbara Kingsolver, Amy Tan, Dave Barry. Dave: "We play music about as well as Metallica writes novels." It's a fun book. Kooper, the band's musical director, wrote a chapter of the book.

Finished the audiobook version of Poodle Springs, the sequel to the Big Sleep that Robert B. Parker wrote using an unfinished Raymond Chandler manuscript. I'm a big fan of Parker, but I found Poodle Springs to be uninspired. The best part by far was that the book was read by Elliot Gould, who of course played Phillip Marlowe in Robert Altman's version of The Long Goodbye.

I started watching Justified when it began three seasons ago because of Elmore Leonard's association with it.  First time through each episode I catch the plot and the action.  Second time through I savor the terse, elegant dialogue.  It is by far the best drama on TV.

Too bad he didn't have an I-Pad.

Seven years ago wet macular degeneration presented itself in both my eyes, so I was actually "living" this nightmare episode.  Since, regular injections of Avastin and Lucentis have brought my vision back to "almost normal" - for golf, driving, T.V., etc. - except for reading, readily, anything less than 14 pt. type.  Using the I-Pad as a reader I can now "go" at nearly what was my former reading speed.  This device is literally a God-Send.
