Had Dungeness once. I like it better than anything save for King crabs. I like the taste of blue crabs, and if someone wants to clean about a hudred of them to get a meal for me, I'd be happy to eat them. Stone crabs are also a PITA, and Snow crabs are just such a let down after having King.

All of the above when available.

Sometimes it's the preparation that seals the deal.

Maryland steamed crabs over King crab legs?  Give me both and let me make a pig of myself.

That's easy for me, never eaten a Dungeness crab, but a boiled blue crab  - wonderful - laid out in a pile on newspaper, a cold beer, a few saltines, and I'm there.  I don't even need the corn, sausage, and potatoes that are usually cooked with the crabs.

I guess it's pretty easy to see what I like. 99 Ranch Market, the Asian market I go to quite often, had these babies on sale for $2.99/lb. yesterday. They were nice and feisty. put some water, vinegar, garlic and onion in the bottom of the steamer. Red potatoes went in along with some nice looking Manila clams they had live too. Put them in and put a healthy dose of Old Bay on everything. Steamed everything in one pot and yum! With martinis it was a nice meal for two.

PS. Unlike the regular markets, they did not put rubber bands on the claws. One of them ripped the plastic bag I brought them home in wide open. Half the challenge was avoiding those pincers!

Nice!  I must make a trip there.  How much does one weigh?

Also, are they totally steamed or to they touch the water?

Now thinking... Would I really do this?

They were about 1 1/4 lbs. each. It was a large pot actually designed with a steamer basket that fits on it and then the lid fits on that so they never touched water. Would you really do it.....now there's a question I can't answer!

Darn!  Went to the Ranch99 in Van Nuys this afternoon.  I must have missed it.... $10.99 a pound which saved two Dungeness crabs' lives.

I did buy 3 pounds of Manila clams at $4.98 a pound.

Yikes, they seem to vary a lot from store to store I guess. Sorry you had to suffer with only eating fresh Manila clams
