My wife and I ate there yesterday. It was everything we hoped for from roadfood.com. The service was warm and friendly, the food was fresh Southern delights-cornbread, vegetables, etc. Definitely worth a visit. The waitress said she knew we had heard of the restaurant from roadfood.com because she didn't know us. A delight!

Great place and well worth a visit. King Tut's Grill in Knoxville si also worth a visit if you're still in the area (80 miles away actually). Also Ali Baba Deli in Knoxville is also great.

Zarzour's is a fantastic place that I would have never stopped in if not for roadfood, even though I drove by it for years. One of the highlights of my past year in terms of eating places.

Anyone know Zarzour's business hours? I'm playing golf at the Honors Club in Ooltewah next week and would like to stop there for a burger.

11 a.m to 2 p.m 5 days/week. Get there as close to 11 as you can because it fills up.

If you're gonna be in Ooltewah, I'd highly recommend Young's BBQ which I think is top notch or the Kreme House both near I-75.

One Iron: Anyone getting the opportunity to place this course is fortunate. Not many folks know this but I do. It is one of the most private course in the USA. It was built by Lupton for his own private use. Not many folks get to play this course.

Lupton sold his bottling of the original Coca Cola back to Coca Cola for 1 Billion so I am told. Lupton paid for the downtown Chattanooga Aquariam out of his own pocket.

I forgot the name of the dude that designed the course but I met him in OKC better than twenty years ago at the airport.

Good luck

Pete Dye and his son, P.B., designed The Honors Course. Upon opening in the early '80s, it immediately received acclaim as one of the best golf courses in the world and still does.

Jack Lupton's grandfather was one of three Chattanooga businessmen who bought Coca Cola bottling rights from Asa Candler for the grand total of one dollar! The deal of the century -- any century!!!

Thanks, Paul. I've played there before (in 2002 and 1993) and am always delighted to tee 'em up at a classy place. Getting off track about Zarzours though, I may try the other places mentioned above.

"If you're gonna be in Ooltewah, I'd highly recommend Young's BBQ which I think is top notch or the Kreme House both near I-75."

Note that there is no such place as "Youngs BBQ".... It is instead called "Couch's BBQ" and I dont recommend it to anyone since the meat there is just smoked ham, not BBQ by most any definition.

I recently ate breakfast at the Kreme house and was served the smallest bowl of grits I have ever seen, and no seconds were available!

There are a lot better places to eat in Chattanooga than these two!

I enthusiastically recommend a new breakfast place in Chattanooga called Bluegrass Grill.

Located in a beautifully restored 1904 classic brick building on E. Main Street, it's within a stone's throw of Zarzour's Cafe and Niedlov's Breadworks.

They specialize in a magnificent breakfast menu, which is served all day, and segue into impressive sandwiches and salads until closing.

All breads, muffins, biscuits, and cinnamon rolls are baked in house.

Whether you enjoy a simple eggs & bacon breakfast or prefer a frittata, omelet, pancakes, or homemade granola, they have you covered.

On Saturday I had the Mediterranean Frittata: 2 eggs with mozzarella and feta cheeses, tomatoes, Kalamata olives, fresh spinach, and onions. Served alongside some delicious red skin home fries. Outstanding.

Also, don’t miss the wonderful Taco Rico, a tiny Salvadoran restaurant a few doors down. You must try their chicken tamale and the fabulous chimichurri sauce!

I certainly agree with all of the above, with the following additions.
Gotta have the Papusas @ Taco Rico. You won't find them anywhere else in the area.
And, there's a wonderful Cajun place in the same neighborhood, as well as on Amnicola Highway (the name escapes me) but it is a wonderful place as well.

The name of the Cajun place is Blue Orleans. The downtown location is on the corner of Main and Market, across the street from the Chattanooga Choo Choo.

We too hit Zarzour's this past summer on our way out to Utah for the summer. WOW!!! is all I had to say after that experience!! We had our 8-monh old baby with us and were not sure the tight quarters during lunch time would suit us. But the same lady (has to be) MADE SURE we were the center of attention and gave us a fantastic seat with lots of room for the high chair. The food, atmosphere and the unexpected well mannered folks in there was an experience we won't soon forget!!

After years of being at the top of my list of Roadfood places I most wanted to visit, we finally made it to Zarzour's for lunch today. I went in with high expectations and it far exceeded it. Food, service, atmosphere, everything was a 10! One of the best Roadfood places I have ever visited.

Photos to follow when we get home from vacation.

Thanks MellowRoast! This is a great town you have here. With the hills and prominent river, this feels very much like Pittsburgh. If you are an early riser, we are having breakfast at Blugrass Grill when they open at 6:30AM. You are welcome to join us.

Lisa, the pies (peanut butter and lemon ice box) were homemade and really good, but the vegetables were unbelievable! Can't believe I am saying this, but with vegetables like this, dessert was unnecessary!

Thank you for the kind invitation, Buffetbuster! If I weren't under the weather, I'd be there.  You will love Bluegrass Grill -- my favorite breakfast place!  We really love this city, and I only wish you had clear skies to grace your visit.  Have a great vacation.

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. One good thing about the rainy, foggy weather today..... we practically had Rock City all to ourselves!

Zarzour's is the only place I'll eat turnip greens.  I don't know what they do to them, but they're wonderful.   And I usually "turnip" my nose to them.

Yeah, those pies are quite good.  I love it when they serve homemade peach ice cream.

Too bad you will not be in Knoxville.  Not a pretty day in Chattanooga especially when you travel to Rock City to see a bunch of states and barely be able to see Chattanooga.  A super view when clear with the bend of the river and the city and Missionary Ridge.
Looking forward to your report of the fine food in Chattanooga.  I lived there for four years and my only daughter was born there.

The last time I was in Chattanooga was for the 1986 Bassmaster Classic. As I recall we had a couple of meals at a complex in downtown Chattanooga near the Chattanooga ChooChoo.

Michael, we are staying in one of the train cars at Chattanooga Choo Choo. Something I have always wanted to do and Mariton is especially enjoying it.

We didn't make it to nearly as many restaurants in town as we hoped, because there were so many activities to enjoy. We did try to visit Clumpie's ice cream twice, only to find they had just closed.

And what MellowRoast said about the turnip greens at Zarzour's is 100% true. Best turnip greens I have ever had!

Buffetbuster, glad to know you stayed at the Choo Choo.  I hope Bluegrass Café didn't disappoint.  Hope you have a chance to sample Nikki's or Champy's before you leave.

Is Clumpie's out of business???  I'm shocked.  They've been there for years.  Wonderful homemade ice cream.

Sadly, a visit to Chattanooga can no longer include a stop at the Scenic Adult Motel as it was razed years ago...

Clumpie's is still definitely in business. On both Sunday and Monday, we arrived to find the doors locked, with the employees cleaning up inside.

I don't think Mariton is starving just yet.  Ask her about some smoked and baked neckbones, and Loveless Biscuit and peach jam ice cream

Actually Lisa, we did not go to the Loveless Cafe.  We visited one of the Nashville branches of Jeni's Ice Cream, where Loveless Biscuit and Peach Jam ice cream was one of the special flavors.

On the subject of vegetables, a recent Zarzour's review at Chattanoogan.com (12-01-13) shows a couple of lunch plates.  I can tell you their spicy cabbage and creamed potatoes are wonderful.

Zarzour's is great but there's another hidden gem in Chattanooga that deserves all of our attention. Innside Restaurant in the Pioneer Bank building. 24/7 diner with some of the finest biscuits in the South.

Wish I had known about Innside Restaurant before our trip earlier this month.  It sure sounds like a place we would have loved to visit.  Looks like they post their daily specials board on their Facebook page.

Buffetbuster: Interesting development at Clumpies.  I can't believe it entered my mind they were out of business.  http://tinyurl.com/clumpies
