Does anyone remember Steer Inn Hamburger chain that opearated in the 1960's? I remember going to one that was in Langhorne,Pa in the 60's. I think there was another one located by the old Aquarama in South Philadelphia that I remember going to.

I sure do remember the one on Rt.22 in Plainfield, N.J.. In 1965-66, I was dating a girl near there and used to stop on my way home for sustenance. McDonald's wasn't in the area yet so Steer Inn was the only game in town for cheap burgers. I think they were 19ยข each as were the fries and shakes. Brings back good memories (the girl I dated - not so much those gristley (sp?) burgers. pb

I also remember the Steer Inn on Route 22 in Plainfield. I spent many a weekend of my youth eating there. It may be part nostalgia, but I thought the Burgers were great!

SLADE!!

Wow I had been searching for any memory of Steer Inn and followed a few threads to your question. I did not know it was a chain of sorts. I grew up on Long Island NY, and there was one on Sunrise Highway between Holbrook and Patchauge. Do you remember "The Big One"? I would compare it to Burger Kings Whopper, but far better! The lettuce was shredded on a cold-cuts slicer. Best burger I EVER had. Your link above to the picture of the place does not work. Can you send it to my email? Thanks.

Hah! I do remember Steer Inn--their burgers were 10 cents, I think. There was one in Wilmington DE on Miller Road, out by P.S. duPont HS (across from the Almart, for any who might remember that too!. Mom would take us there for a "treat" since the burgers were so inexpensive. I didn't really know that they were a chain. Thanks for reviving my memories.

See if this works...

I also remember the one near Patchogue. I thought the sign was very cool when I was a kid.

Sorry about that last post.Slade 1955 the flickr thread is no good. Tony Bad; I too remember that good steer in Patchogue area. I remember the really unusual building front with the steer, the food didn't really impress or I was just too young to appreciate.

There was a Mr. Bee's on west Main St. in Somerville, NJ back, I believe, in the late 60's and/or early 70's. It was kind of creepy with the "honeycomb" ceiling and table-tops,; both contained hundreds of fake bees. Also, at times, they put a someone in a stupid looking bee costume out by the street to wave to passing cars (similar to the Mr. Peanut on Rt. 22 in Plainfield). I think they got a lot of abuse. The "BeeBurgers" were just okay as I remember. We preferred the fare at the local diners. pb

And we used to go to the Tico Taco nearby. (I think they finally got closed down for food poisoning?!?)

There used to be a lot of nightclubs around there we would go to during my high school days; good bands playing... all that is gone now, of course....
that whole area looks like just like anywhere else now, right?

I think that place lasted until at least the mid 80's. In any event, I only went there once and was totally put off by the bees encased in the glass table tops. I'm not so sure they were fake, they looked real. What a stupid concept. The last thing I want to be reminded of when I'm eating is bees (well, maybe roaches too).

As I recall the food wasn't that great anyway.

Steer Inn, Tico Taco and Mr Bee's on the Somerville Circle, this tread is bringing back some memories. I always like the Fried Chicken at Mr Bee's. I thought it was much better than the Kentucky Fried Chicken at Gino's on Rt 22.

The ONLY Steer In, that I was ever aware of was NOT a Hambuger Joint. It was a SteakHouse. They actually butchered the Cattle only a few feet behind the restaurant.

This Steer In, was Located Just North of SilverLake Indiana on hwy 15, in the late 60's on thru to the beginning of the '80's.

We still have Steer Inn's on the West Coast. Well, maybe not on the coast, but Spokane, Washington still has a couple. I used to go there regularly with my family growing up. One of the one's in Spokane has a classic car show every Wednesday. Really good burgers, etc.

I grew up in Willingboro, NJ. There was a Steer Inn at the corner of Rt 130 and Levitt Parkway in the early '60s. We used to stop there and get french fries for the 3 mile ride home from my grandmother's house. There was also a Gino's at the corner of Rt 130 and Beverly Rancocas Road - they had THE BEST homemade hamburgers! That was a great Sunday, after church treat!

Hey, everyone. Newbie here!

I remember a Steer Inn at the corner of South Avenue and Chester Pike in Glenolden, PA. Right around the corner from a swim club (that is still there). The Steer Inn location is now an Iron Man Gym. I pass this location every day on my commute and think about it, even though I was just a kid and don't remember much about it except the food (certainly not the prices...I wasn't paying!).

Grew up on LI and there was a Steer Inn on Hemp Tpke in Farmingdale, right next to putt putt mini golf. Great steak sandwiches ($1.25) and shakes. Same building later became a topless bar, nothing you'd want to eat in that place. Now it is a parking lot for OTB

I remember a Steer Inn on RT. 130 south of Trenton, NJ. We stopped there on the way to the NJ. State Fair, back in the sixties. I remember their radio jingle "Steer in, the Steer Inn".

I remember going to the Steer Inn on Rt 9 in Sayerville. Loved sitting on the tile bench and watching them make the burgers. And the chocolate shakes were to die for!

Love the photo of the 1960 sign....brings back memories of an earlier time

I remember a Steer Inn that was located on N. Easton Road just off Jenkintown Rd. in Glenside PA.  This was back in the 60's.
Never forget it actually.  As a kid growing up in a large family (9 kids) we only went out to eat at a nice resturant once a year and that was on Easter Sunday.
My parents decided to go to a pretty nice place called "Casa Conte" which was located directly across from the Steer Inn.
My brother, who always seemed to be in trouble,  started grumbling about having to go to Casa Conti's and to please him my Mom asked what he would eat if he didn't want to go to Casa Conti's.
He choose to get Steer Inn hamburgers in a paper/plastic wrapper while the reat of us sat down to a nice dinner with beautiful placesettings, waiters,etc.. at Casa Conti's.
Not too bright of him I thought at the time but what the heck, it stopped his stupid complaining. Cost less too.

There is a Steer Inn in Indianapolis but I don't think it is related.

I've been there 3 or 4 times....always for breakfast. Very good. I want to try lunch or dinner there sometime. On Thursday or Friday nights they have a stuffed pizza special that is supposed to be good.

I have a picture of the Steer In (or what's left of it as of March 2010) in Plainfield NJ on Rt. 22.  How does one go about getting a full-sized (764K) version of it posted?

I worked at this Steer Inn in Farmingdale in mid-sixties. Burgers were good, but the "Big One" was awesome! Way before the Whopper.... For 15 cents, the burgers were really good. Walked to work from 203 Thomas Powell Blvd, across from shopping center with KIng Kullen in it.

That was "THE" place to cruise on the eastside of Indy back in the 60s-70s.

I grew up in Baldwin NY and there was a Steer Inn right on the main drag (Grand Ave) to be exact. They had the best cheeseburgers and Shakes I can remember. It is very cool seeing all of the images that bring back such great memories. Thanks!

I remember the Steer Inn on Route 22 in N Plainfield very, very well. It was near the corner of Jefferson st. and 22. I lived on Jefferson from 1965-1967 until we moved to Watchung Ave. It was always a treat for me and my friends to go there. I sure do miss that place, and I miss those days as well. Haven't been back to NJ in over twenty years. How is it in N Plainfield these days?
