As I understand the purpose of the waffle cut fries, it is to allow browning to occur much quicker. If done correctly, it will approach the crispy taste of the chips and have a moist center.

It seems to me that Chick Fil has them and if I recall, they were tasty.

the nooks and crannies hold the dipping sauces better than steak fries

I like them, especially if they're crispy.

Don't really care for waffle fries, but they are better than those pre-seasoned, pre-fab curley fries, yuck. I don't like really skinny fries, either.

Steak fries or crinkle cut, please.

I've had them, and IMO, like fries in general they can be good or bad, depending where you get them. A novel approach that I became aware of over the weekend is to used waffle fries in place of nacho chips in "nachos". I declined, but the server said that they are very popular.

Last week I had waffle fires for the first time in many years at a nice little place called the 223 Grill on US 1 in the Yarmouth, Maine area. I thought they might be all hard but, while they were well -cooked, they were soft and IMHO were pretty good.

I used to love the waffle fries from Chik fil A, but I haven't had them for a long time. Granite City makes pretty good ones that they serve with their special Granite City dip, which is sour cream and some spices.

Actually, I prefer Waffle Fries as my "Chips" when I have Fish 'n' Chips, which is a world class special, Fridays only, at Tops Diner, East Newark, NJ. It's a great dinner, but the regular fries that come with it are otherwise ordinary. The Waffle Fries bumps it up a notch, to coin a phrase, up to as good as it gets. It comes with dessert. If they have the blueberry cobbler, have it!

I prefer the plain old skinny shoestring fries. I also like steak fries on occasion, but have never cared much for the waffle fries or crinkle cut fries. Sweet potatoe fries cut like shoestring fries are also quite good.

Funny. I was an adult before I ever saw fries that were not "crinkle cut."

Crinkle cut, waffle fries, shoestring, steak fries, scalloped, mashed, au gratin, baked, hash browns, home fries. I just wish I could eat a whole bunch of 'em, bunches and bunches, without gaining weight.

Alas...but then, maybe they just wouldn't taste as good. It's a funny thing, this business...
