Outrageous Food Vendor Fees - Tue, 11/15/05 9:23 AM

Anyone notice the huge (15-20%) increases in vendor fees at various events? What gives? For some events you won't start breaking-even until after the 200th customer or so.

Makes me thing there needs to be a food vendor association (probably already is one) organized boycott.

Thoughts?

I'll bump this topic, but I can't contribute much. Was 10% more common in the past? Is that typically gross or net? I've gotten advice to use a sliding scale on a private parking lot or property: 10% up to $500 net, 15% to $750, then 20% of net. These would be your daily receipts, and start over in the morning. But I can see why an event with many vendors would only want a flat percentage, probably of gross sales. What kind of deals are people making?

Percentage of sales usually ranges from 20-30% for events or a flat fee that can range from $50 per day to $1500 per day or more.

I was really referring to the increase in flat rates from year to year at the same event. There are a couple of events in the Orlando area where the vendor fees jumped from $1400 last year to $1700 this year.

Personally, I'm beginning to feel like the only people that make real money at some of these events are the organizers. Funny thing, there would be no event with the vendors.

I too would be interested in deals vendors are making and key selection criteria for events.

I meant "without the vendors."
