Regional Candy favorites - Cherry Mash - Wed, 05/28/03 2:08 PM

My favorite candy in the whole world is a regional candy called Cherry Mash made by Chase Candy Company in St. Joseph MO. Chocolate and peanuts surround a cherry nougat center. No taste like it in the whole world. Every time I am in the St. Joe area I run into a quickie mart and buy the entire box. People generally look at me as if I am nuts, but we can't get them in Chicago!! I would be interested to know if anyone has had these and is as crazy about them as I am, or if anyone is crazy about a different regional candy.

Cherry Mash is my wife's #2 favorite candy (the first is a plain Hershey bar). We can buy Cherry Mash regularly down here now, but if you can't in your area, you can order them from:

I spend much of my disposable income ordering from their catalog. Lots of neat stuff there besides Cherry Mash.

You can find them in a lot of stores here in Texas. They were my favorite growing up. I have an Aunt who makes cookie bars with them, and I have also had Cherry Mash ice cream.

On the Food Network a few months ago, I saw a piece on Cherry Cocktails. They're like Cherry Mash, except they have a cherry inside like a chocolate-covered cherry cordial. I thought they would be a perfect candy, so I ordered a dozen. Frankly, I still think Cherry Mash is better; not sure why. Anyway, if anyone's interested, here's the site:

Lone Star, Cherry Mash ice cream sounds great. Was that homemade, or can it be bought somewhere?

Bushie- It was homemade vanilla ice cream with a bunch of chopped/chunked up cherry mash bars put in before the ice cream freezes.

My mother makes Butterfinger ice cream this way for all of our summer time get-togethers.

We always use the Junket ice cream mixes......sooo good!

Thanks, Lone Star. I'll give it a try at home.

I just sampled some Mississippi Mud from the Southern Candymakers Co. in New Orleans. Anybody try this yet?

I grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri, and still live in northwest Missouri. We are able to get Cherry Mash just about everywhere around here. It always was one of my favorites. I lived in Denver for a year in the late 1980's and there was only one place across town that carried them.......I used to go there once a month and stock up !
