A truly sad day for Minnesota and all of baseball. I got his autograph in 1987 before a game. He truly symbolized the spirit of the underdog, and helped bring two world championships to the scrappy teams from fly-over land. He will be greatly missed.

I guess I got tired of hearing all the people who say that they will miss his smile -- so, I picked a picture of the thing he truly did best -- flat out RAKE!

Fun ballplayer to watch. I was in college in Mpls when the Twins won their first series. Not much for walking, a big-time first pitch hitter.

I've edited my response. Good ballplayer, bad person.

The homerun in Game 6 of the 1991 series remains a treasured memory. The premature end to his career saddened me and deprived us of some more good memories. I loved the relish with which he played the game.
