A truly sad day for Minnesota and all of baseball. I got his autograph in 1987 before a game. He truly symbolized the spirit of the underdog, and helped bring two world championships to the scrappy teams from fly-over land. He will be greatly missed.

I guess I got tired of hearing all the people who say that they will miss his smile -- so, I picked a picture of the thing he truly did best -- flat out RAKE!

Fun ballplayer to watch. I was in college in Mpls when the Twins won their first series. Not much for walking, a big-time first pitch hitter.

I've edited my response. Good ballplayer, bad person.

My thoughts exactly!I am no Puckett Fan but bringing that up is wrong and mean spirited.Thats not what Roadfood is about.

The homerun in Game 6 of the 1991 series remains a treasured memory. The premature end to his career saddened me and deprived us of some more good memories. I loved the relish with which he played the game.
