cheapest breakfast in town

whats the cheapest decent place you've ever had breakfast at.....????

I used to eat at Glorias "HOME OF THE 2.00 BREAKFAST" in new orleans ...she gave you a pile of scrambled eggs a bunch of grits and a big piece of like hillshire smoked sausage and maybe busicuits too i forget ....the artery to my brain is clogged....

We also had so much food thrown at us it the hills of kentuky it was shamefull and when we paid the bill it was like 2.25 the tip was bigger ...

coffee ,toast ,bacon,sausage, scrambled eggs&cheese, orange juice, more bacon....an obsene amount of food....

A place called Stella's in my home town. I can get French Toast, Bacon, Homefries, and Chocolate Milk for $3.00. Unfortunately, I cant vouch for the lunch and supper menu.

Nathans Deli in Chesapeake Va. - 2 eggs, bacon, toast... 99 cents. (that was a few years ago..not sure what it is now).

I used to work the grill at Clandeboye store restaurant. The breakfast special until 11am was 2 eggs, toast, homemade hashbrowns, and choice of bacon, ham or sausage for $1.99.

It was good when I cooked it!

I hate to post it here but there is a place in Knoxville that has arches that had two sausages and bisquits for $1.00. Water was free. You could ask for lemon and artificial sweetner is you wish.

Wreckless, I am not making fun of your remarks but believe it or not, my wife and I just had a discussion about this usage about a hour ago. I ask her where something or other was at. She responded that it was behind the at. She politely reminded me that sometimes I butcher the English language. She told me that it was unnecessary to use the "at" ending the sentence.

That reminded me of something my dad said to me about twenty years ago before his death. I corrected him on his usage regarding sentence structure. He informed me in his elderly way that he was a English major and he would talk as he wished. I ignored his comment and finished my cocktail with him.

Tkitna is just trying to tease us by mentioning a great breafast place in his/her unnamed hometown. But the location must be revealed. Tkitna's Roadfood profile lists a hometown of Wellsburg WV. A Google search for "Stella's" + "Wellsburg" brings up the following link for Wellsburg restaurants:

My Aunt on my Father's side was an English teacher in a private school on the east side of Manhatten. I was REQUIRED to write her two letters each year. She returned them a week later w/ corrections in red pencil.

I guess one reason I got an engineering degree and not a journalism one. She was a wonderful person but would correct you if you spoke incorrectly.

I guess one reason I am so happily retired is that I don't have to speak in any particular 'style' to anyone. I really hated listening (and speaking) in the "Educationese" style during my long career. While I do attempt to control my use of the universal adjective on this site, and will do a classroom presentation in the required format,I take pride in communicating in the vernacular of my audience most of the time.


Now RE- the topic of a cheap breakfast... Many of the Stateline Casinos on the CA-NV border have a steak and eggs weekday breakfast special for 99cents...or gratus with a coupon available most everywhere on the Mon-Thursday handouts.

I remember about 15 years ago the Galewood Tavern in Wyoming had 50 cents drafts, $1 well drinks and $3 dollar monster cocktails. (Hey, if you worked 3rd shift, it was breakfast)..

I was going to say the county lock-up but then again If I remember correctly I had to pay $125.00. It was one of those all-inclusive deals but still...There's a place in Madison Indiana called Hinkles Hamburgers(mini burgers like White Castle) that I ate at when I lived there. Back then they were open 24/7, breakfast anytime. Ham(nice), bacon or sausage & eggs, hashbrowns, toast/jelly, biscuits and gravy and coffee for $3.00 or so. Huge portions. It was an all day breakfast! The only bad part was if you went at the wrong time of the morning you'd have to smell the day's chili cooking. This nasty Southern Indiana tomatoe juice chili soup with macaroni cooked to death under a grease slick that would cripple the resources at FEMA. Never understood how you could get so much grease from so little meat. I'd try to get there before 8 am or sit by the grill cause they were always doing burgers and onions. The hashbrowns were out of this world being fried on the same grill with the onions. They always gave you a dollop of them with your burgers too.

Lol. I have no idea how that Pizza Hut still stands. I can honestly say that I havent been in that building for the last 10 years. DiCarlos is some pretty awesome pizza (Wellsburg shop) and i've over done it more than once.

Stellas actually changed their name not long ago (cant remember it though), but the breakfasts are still killer. I've just never ate lunch or supper there to judge it. No reason why, but just havent. Guess i'll try it out soon.

When I lived on the beach (literally) in Honolulu, there was a place I could get a plate of spaghetti at 7:00 a.m., for 25 cents.

Biscuitville in NC has breakfast available for less than $ 3.50 depending on type of meat - 2 eggs, grits or hash brown, biscuit, ham, bacon or sausage.

We also have a place called Current Cagfeteria in Durham that has the same special for $ 3.49 but themeat options are bacon, country ham, salmon patties, homemade thick link sausage (my favorite) or sausage patties. Outstanding!!

Had a large order of grits at Krystal's for 60 cents (tax included). The best grits I've ever eaten. I go through the drive-thru about 3 times a week for them. One order fills me up as they are swimming in butter (I know, I know).

The Donut Shop, Indianapolis. Eggs, toast, hash browns for 2.85, you can add gravy or breakfast meats for a little over a buck. Nothing fancy, but pretty good. Great people watching, too, and now that Naptown has gone smoke-free you don't need to take a half hour shower immediately after leaving to rid yourself of the tobacco smell (I smoke, but I'm loving the clean air in my favorite dives mowadays).

Minor detail but no I am not logged on/in. I type in v960, then my password, type my message and hit reply. I know it is some wrong setting on my laptop but if I do login (upper right hand corneer of my present screen) then I CAN'T post. No worries...

Does the upper right hand corner of your screen have in black letters "Logged in as Michael Hoffman"? or a "Login" button beside a "Register email" button? If you have the latter you are not logged in and will be required to enter your screen name and password each time you post.

Now that is solved. I used to eat at the Coffee Cup (listed on this site) quite often starting some twenty years ago. I am a distance runner (although on the down side of a half century I get passed more than pass now) and pretty much didn't worry about dietary intake those many years ago. I figured if the furnace was hot enough it would burn anything.

This place would serve a big bowl of grits w/ at least a 1/4 inch layer of butter on top for a dollar. Two biscuits on the side. I know the biscuits were made w/ lard. This place didn't even have an inside bathroom. We were regulars so we came in through the kitchen door and grabbed a biscuit. Coffee so strong a spoon would stand up in it.

Would I be correct in assuming you're not referring to The Coffee Cup in Nelsonville, Ohio?

V- If you are logged in on one computer you won't be able to sign in on another until you sign off on the first. I made that mistake when I left my home machine logged on when we went on a trip with the laptop with us. I couldn't post until I cleared off the home machine.
