On the way to Tilghman Island - Sun, 06/29/03 1:14 PM
We'll be spending a few weekdays on Tilghman Island, Maryland, at the end of August. We're staying at a place where you can cook if you want. We're only driving from South Jersey, and probably taking Route 13, cutting across Delaware, to 301 into Maryland, dropping down to 213, then down to 50 through Easton and over to 33 through the touristy St. Michael's.

It's not a really far drive, but I'd love suggestions for a lunch that's not expensive. Something good. I detest tourist traps and would love to stay away from chains on the way down and back.

I appreciate any and all suggestions.

Try Helen's Sausage House on the northbound side of Rt 13 in Delaware. Smyrna I think. Closes early afternoon. Another decent stop is Chesapeake Chicken, on Rt 50 where it splits with 301.

Chesapeake Landing, a local's restaurant about three miles west of St. Michael's on the road to Tilghman--dinner is great, as is the attached fish market.
