I miss the waffle-type cheese sandwich crackers that came in a cardboard "tube" pack.

Shake Cakes (Choc, vanilla & strawberry) by BREAK (then Campbell-Taggart, now Earth Grains). There was nothing else like those anywhere. I wish IBC would buy out that company and produce them under the Drake's brand! Would fit in perfectly with the old Strawberry and Banana Shortcakes, which should also be brought back. Since the Drake Bakeries actually manufacture the Twinkies in this area, just start making the Strawberry and Banana Twinkies (which I completely missed) again, and put Drakes labels on them.
Also, what happened to the Lil' Angels for the summertime? It seems those were discontinued as well.
And do you all still ave Hostess Apple Cupcakes out there? They long disappeared from NY, but everytime I go to any other city; they still have them.

I think fire balls are still around--you can usually get them individually wrapped. There
were smaller fire balls sold in boxes (made by the company that makes Lemon Heads and Jaw Breakers I think) but I have not seen those in years.

Anyone remember the Seven-Up candy bar made by Pearson's in St. Paul? It was like 7 candy bars in one. How 'bout those pastel after-dinner mints about 1-1/2 inch across with a corrugated bottom, kinda grainy, and melt in your mouth?

Well, now you can have Entenmann's instead. To me, they seem to be a bit too sweet; kind of like what you would expect from Little Debbie.

They still have Zero bars and Tahitian Treat fruit punch in Texas and Florida. I'm pretty sure I've seen a Munch bar too. I for one am all for bringing back Crunch Tators. They were so good!

I know I'm going crazy with the posts, but this is my first night on here, and there's just so much I think should be brought back. One of my all time favorites that I definitely vote as my number one thing to bring back were these hot doritos from when I was a kid. I can't remember the exact flavor, bt they had a picture of peppers, onions and tomatoes on the front of the bag. They were so awesome.

Here are some of mine I am sure to think of more later:

Willy Wonka Scrunch bar, it was kind of like a 5th Ave bar, but way better.

Willy Wonka Oompas – the original ones that were like M&M’s - they were filled with chocolate and peanut butter.

The ORIGINAL Plain M&M’s - they changed the chocolate in the 90’s – I REALLY miss them.

Taco flavor Doritos.

Pizza Spins. I really miss those.

Coca-Cola and ALL sodas in returnable GLASS bottles made with real SUGAR not High Fructose corn syrup – I have to pay two dollars for a Mexican coke in Seattle, if I can even find one and there still are not as good as I recall.

Nabisco Chocolate Snaps. I gave up looking for them.

Mothers brand angel food chocolate chip cookies.

The original "Sports Shake" drink made my Mid America farms,it was available in chocolate, vanilla or strawberry - it was super rich. But they changed the product to make it lower in fat awhile back and now it is not at all the same.

McDonalds FRIED hot apple pie – they bake them now and they are not nearly as good.

Chocolate Ovaltine from Chicago – The mix used to look like coffee crystals, and was a totally different product from what is sold as Ovaltine now. I used to be able to get the original kind that was made in England, but I heard they are not making it anymore. I have found some from Thailand, but it is not quite the same.

PDQ – made by Ovaltine from Chicago.

Chef Boyardee’s cheese ravioli in a can – a great comfort food from my childhood – I can’t find it anywhere anymore.

Delaware punch. I have seen that you can get the concentrate for it out of Mexico.

The original Corn Nuts, if you want to know how they used to be, click here: http://www.inkacrops.com/snacks/info_box/inkacorn_4oz.htm

Bosco syrup, still made, but not sold in my area.

TEAM Flakes cereal, made by General Mills.

Iranian pistachios. I get Turkish ones from Zenobia, but the Iranian ones are the best.

Russell Stover french milk chocolate bar.

In the early 70's, there was a box of cupcakes with strawberry, chocolate and vanilla icing in the local Brooklyn "Royal Farms" supermarket chain store. It may have been Sarah Lee, IIRC (but it wasn't frozen/refrigerated). These were good, and very unique tasting. Seemed so common back then, but when I was older, I looked up and they were gone for good, and Sarah Lee looked like the brand it was.

Dipsy Doodle Corn chips are still around, I just had a snack size bag on my way home from work

And if you're feeling the jones for a old McDonald's fried apple pie, Taco Bell has fried caramel apple empanadas. The crust isn't as bubbly crisp as the old fried pies were, but when I first tried one, the old McD's fried pie sensation came over me.

Funny Bones are still available, had some a couple months ago.

Add me to the list of folks who wish Doo Dads would make a comeback.

Back about 30 years ago, I was in a nearby department store with my mother. Looking around the candy rack, I came upon two flavors of LifeSavers I had never seen before - sour cherry and sour lemon. The rolls were maybe twice the length of regular LifeSavers rolls, and the cherry package had photographs of cherries on it, and likewise the lemon. I bought a package of each kind, and LOVED them. They had a different flavor - not the sugary sweet of the regular 5-fruit LifeSavers, and not the extreme, face-twisting sour commonly found today. I have never seen these varieties of LifeSavers again, even at that same store, which has long since gone out of business. But if I could I would buy several cases of each.

When I lived in Hawaii in the late 60's there were also some foreign (English maybe) Sour Hard candies called Royals or Crown Royals(?) that were very sour but very good and I haven't been able to find those since.

I also remember a foreign Cadbury candy bar that was similar to a Twix, but the cookie they used was a shortbread variation and very good.

Didn't Twix originally have 4 flavors?

Anyone in the Minnesota area does anyone know of a bakery that makes a peanut cupcake? It has crushed peanuts and sugar on the outside of a yellow cupcake. I'd like the name of the bakery so I can order some.

hello agin,
I have to say the lat website I posted has a ton of old time candy. If you loved Marathon bars then try the "Curly Wurly" Also I noticed there are a lot of post for Chocolite bars well if you have a british store near you or a market with an imported section like "Stop & Shop" here in the Northeast they have a Areo bar made by Nestles Company in the UK taste and texture just like Chocolite! I hope im helping some of you because I'm yearning for a candy bar! I only allow myself a treat once a week since I run a lot to stay in shape and the same dress size as high school!

I was grocery shopping at a local Redner's Warehouse yesterday and saw Archway's Icebox Chocolate Chip cookies on a rack and almost bought a package. Next time I will!

anybody remember a puffed snack with pesto flavor? back in college in NY in the late 80's early 90's, I could kill a bag in a sitting, maybe a couple of Saranacs to wash 'em down. they were made to resemble pasta and had an addictive garlic/cheese/dried herb coating.

Are you referring to "teenage mutant ninja turtle pizza snacks" AKA pizza spins? There is a thread about them in this forum: http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5974

I've found that if one is able to get to Canada, the Kit Kats and other chocolates there are similar to the English recipes. Yummies in Kittery Maine does mail order and has lots of old time candy. They have wax lips and teeth but I didn't see the harmonicas the last time I was there.
Anyone know where I can get Chicago style (side split, poppy seed) hot dog rolls in the Boston area? I'd like to try them.

I'm not gonna list the stuff you guys listed that is still sold. A good 60-80% of that stuff is still on the market and hasn't gone anywhere.

However, here's what I miss and cannot find any information on. I also can't seem to find many people who know about this: Uncle Don's Sour Cream potato chips. They were the best I ever had. The deli my Mom worked at carried them, but only in smaller size bags.

They also don't sell "Pork & Beans" around our area since maybe the 80's sometime they disappeared. These were beans, with little cut up pieces of hotdogs in there. Used to add some molasses and brown sugar.

Anyone know where I can get Chicago style (side split, poppy seed) hot dog rolls in the Boston area? I'd like to try them.

thanks John, these things were trying to be "gourmet" and had no cartoon affiliation. I'm afraid those lovely crisps are lost to the ages.

anybody remember a puffed snack with pesto flavor? back in college in NY in the late 80's early 90's, I could kill a bag in a sitting, maybe a couple of Saranacs to wash 'em down. they were made to resemble pasta and had an addictive garlic/cheese/dried herb coating.

Are you referring to "teenage mutant ninja turtle pizza snacks" AKA pizza spins? There is a thread about them in this forum: http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5974

At one time Peter Paul had a third candy bar, Almond Cluster, that I guess didn't sell like the Mounds/Almond Joys. I remember it was good - almonds and chocolate are never bad - can't recall if there was a third ingredient, maybe some caramel?

I sort of remembered Almond Clusters, too, and did a search to see if I could find anything out about their ingredients. All I found was this photo and it looks like maybe it was different from Mounds and Almond Joy because it didn't include coconut.

Yes! There was a third ingredient! Honeycomb was in there too!
These were my favorite candy bars as a kid and I was sad to see these are no longer inproduction - anywhere...
I have dreamed these darn things over the years.....
also I remember the wrapper looked just like the mounds and almond joy - but where almond joy is blue and Mounds is red, Almond Clusters were Orange and Caravelle was turquoise.

Beer and Snausages - maybe you're thinkign of Regal Crown. I can't find them on the east coast, either.
Sky Bars - one of my favorites from when I was a kid are available occasionally at Cracker barrel, but I wish they were more widely available.
Fizzies need to be brought back. The originals were made with cyclamates, but once that artificial sweetner was banned, Fizzies were discontinued. Apparently, no other artificial sweetener holds together in tablet form.
