Hello All,
Xannie01 banished from a site...never. Must be Xannie01's evil twin that gets banished.
Roosy, this site looks great. Thanks for sharing it. My chili has been a little boring
lately and this place will zest it up.
Take Care,
Fieldthistle

Well said as always Field!

Zest it up? Your turkey chili did not sound boring to me. I always look over that "weird things" thread here for new ideas. there is also a good chili recipes thread here somewhere. That said, I DO like that chiliforum site.

Field, let us know how you decide to zest up your next batch.

if you're a chili purist you read on at your own risk.

here's a quick and dirty "got to have a chili fix right now" recipe.

2 lbs of ground beef
your favorite chili seasoning pack/mix
1 can tomato's - chopped, whole, sauce...whatever you like
1-2 cans of hoppin john

cook the ground beef and drain. add everything else. cook for 15 minutes. eat. even better the next day.

hoppin john is typically:

tomato
onions
garlic
jalapeno
black eyed peas

while it is often served with rice, hoppin john is made of the ingredients above.

Glory makes a pretty good hoppin John as well as a lot of other very tasty canned veggies.

More on the hoppin john front. i eat hj often...by itself, as a side, as a sauce, etc.

last night I "cooked" a couple pieces of salmon*, reduced a can of hoppin john for 20 minutes, and poured the HJ on top of the salmon.

added a can of spinach with butter (I eat a good amount of spinach but it is usually frozen - all the spinach in the news recently had me hankering ).

good eating.

* i buy the blackened seasoned salmon fillets from sams - this has the paul prudhommes cajun seasoning blend. smoke it, bake it, steam it, smother it. always spicy. good stuff.

I saw a recipe at the chiliforum using smoked brisket. Sounds good to me! Only, to not eat it up before it goes in the chili may be hard?
