Here in NM (I'm here for the weekend) they sell shaker salts to use on fruits (and other foods). You can get limon, lemon-lime, lime+chile, etc. Today I went to a store that caters to Mexican immigrants and bought "Pico Piquin" a "hot" seasoning which it says to use on: jicama, mangos, corn & cucumbers. This one comes from Vernon CA, but I also have "Spice of Life" brand (Limon Gold) which comes from Albuquerque. They suggest to put it on fish, salads, chicken, fruits, beer and margaritas.
I have tried similar on melons (good) and today (Pico Piquin) on oranges (very good).
How popular are such products in other parts of US?
