Burger Queen ? - Mon, 01/8/07 12:44 PM
At a gararge sale a few weeks back we came across a coffee mug from Burger Queen, anyone know anything about this chain, where we they located ? And when did they go out of business, or by some great chance are they still out there locally somewhere ?

Burger Queen was based in Louisville, KY, and operated in that region. At some point they changed their name to Druthers. In the early 90's Druther's was bought out by Dairy Queen. There is still one Druthers in operation at 101 North Columbia Avenue in Campbellsville, KY. I have been there on fast food pilgrimages multiple times, and am happy to report they have great food.

There was a Burger Queen in Lakeland, Fl in the 70's. There was another one either in Winter Haven or Auburndale, Fl during that same period. I don't know if were they part of the chain mentioned earlier in the thread. I do remember them having a drive through which was pretty unusual for the time.

I remember a Burger Queen in Ruskin, FL (south of Tampa). What was funny is right up the road, there was a Dairy King.

I posted this on another thread. There is one in Ethiopia, no kidding! I thought it was a joke.

I worked at the Burger Queen in Lakeland in 1967 when I was in high school. To my recollection it and another one in Winter Haven were owned by a man who lived in Lakeland. I can't remember his name. They had great fried crab rolls, fried chicken, and cheeseburgers.

I worked at the Burger Queen in Lakeland in 1967, my last year of high school. To my recollection that one and the one in Winter Haven were owned by a Lakeland man. I have forgotten his name. We had a drive through window, one of the first in the city, as well as an inside seating area. The deep fried chicken and crab rolls were excellent. By the early 1970s it was out of business and the building was converted to a Papal Jays restaurant. D. Cloud, kathmandutraveler@yahoo.com

Similar; just like Wendy's, there once was a Judy's:

Visited my one and only Burger Queen in Winchester, KY in 1970. Don't remember anything distinctive about their food, but they had sappy tv commercials starring "Queenie Bee." Ugh!

There was a Burger Queen on Madison at about 15th or so in Covington Ky back in the mid to late 70's and perhaps a bit beyond

Renamed as "Druthers" at some point

Burgers there were pretty darn good and very cheap

Back in the late '70s there was a Burger Queen in Kermit, WV that I passed whenever I drove down to North Carolina. I only ate there one time as I wasn't too impressed with their burgers. Some years later I stopped at one in Kentucky after the chain had changed its name to Druther's and discovered that the food quality had gotten even worse. I don't know how extensive their marketing area was, but the furthest north that I ever saw a BQ was in Bloomington, Indiana.

There was a Burger Queen in Chillicothe, Ohio in the 1960's.  I believe it opened in 1964.

I remember a roadtrip with the family through the south circa 1975 and eating at both "Burger Queen" and "Dairy King."  I always wondered if they were still around.
