I practically had to stand and go to the opposite corner of the room to get the entire fish sandwich in the photo!  One of the lengths got dropped off to my mother and even though she didn't eat it until a couple hours after it came out of the kitchen, she told me it was the best sandwich she has ever had.

I think a nice grinder roll or sub bun would be better for that thing than that puny hamburger roll.

WOW that is an awesome looking fish sandwich.

Actually all the fish sandwiches in W PA are served on puny little buns.  I guess the focus is on the fish, not the bread.

And, of course, they love the drama of it extending so far outside of the bun.

Well you have to admit, over a pound of fish sticking out in all directions is pretty darn dramatic!
All this talk about fish sandwiches, we may have to hit the road and head to The Land of Yinzers because I'm really craving one!

Do all of those PA fish sandwiches have a beer batter? I actually prefer a light breading, but sure as heck would not turn one of those down!

Pancho-
Many of them do use a beer batter, but this one was almost like a tempura.

Good to hear...I would like that. Sometimes those beer batter renditions seem to hold a lot of grease within. I don't know if that makes any sense.

Though I've not been since Guy Fieree (sp?) made his appearance, Big Jim's always had the excellent Mancini rolls and not little rolls.

Armstrong's in Caste Village also offered either Mancini rolls or Mancini bread.

Donatelli's Grocery in Bloomfield also offers their fish sandwich (an excellent one) on rolls large enough to fit the filets.

Wholey's offers Mancini buns also.  I guess I just like the fish so much that I could care less about the bun which I usually discard!  I have a hard enough time just finishing all the fish.
