Has anyone tried the frozen lobster chunks they sell in the frozen seafood section? It's like $7.00 a pound. I wonder if it's real lobster.

I always feel sorry for the live lobsters in tank at the Super Wal-marts in this area. The tanks are much smaller than the supermarket tanks and I don't know who in this area goes to Wal-mart to buy lobster. Sure, the lobsters live longer than the supermarket ones but in very cramped conditions.

Those chunks are horrible, little tiny animals molded and pressed and frozen. The dogs liked them, though.

Are you sure that's not "Loobster?" the stuff they served along with Grade A "Bef" at Norm's favorite restaurant on Cheers.

At $7.00 a pound I seriously doubt that it's lobster. Is this canned or vac-packed. A 12oz can will run about $11.99 on sale around here. Also where is it from? The law states that point of origon has to be on the pakaging. Chow Jim

That sounds slightly pornographic.

They only call it that because it ain't worth squat. I haven't quite figured out what it is, but it is stuff all mushed together.

Interesting Sundancer7. So they are selling some kind of crab that no one has heard of and calling is lobster. I wonder if is any good?

I guess I would try it but the Shop Rite in Hillsdale, NJ has lobster for 5.99 a pound this Friday and Saturday. My kids are already anticipating a lobster feast for the weekend!

It's amazing how many times we've seen the Langostino Lobster mentioned on this site. It seems that companies are really trying hard to pull the wool over our eyes through all their different methods of calling a crab a lobster.
But then, I've been known to buy imitation crab - so what the heck. But at least it's clear that "imitation" is not a type of crab.

I didn't know about the whole langostino conspiracy until this past year when it came up in discussion on this site, forcing me to do some research.

I really do wonder about how the taste compares with lobster vs. squat lobster?

Langostino from South America has been available frozen, frequently in a brick, for some time. My Mom would use it to make a mixed seafood casserole. As I recall, it's slightly sweet, but not as sweet as lobster or, certainly, surimi (imitation crab, etc.), and pretty bland with more of a "swampy" than "oceany" flavor. IMHO it's closer in flavor to the pre-cooked God knows when crawfish we sometimes find up here in the North than to Homarus Americanus.

Anyone have a better way of describing it?

Ashphalt, that sounds like a very accurate description of langostinos. I am still wondering about those squat things though.

I have had the Langastinos before. They were not bad and in fact pretty tasty. I had never thought they were lobster though.
