Has anyone ever steamed clams in a microwave oven? If so, how did you do it (type of cooking container, etc.)?

RUBY.........Yea you can. Place the clams on a plate with
some water and cover with plastic wrap or use a micro safe
dish and cover and water. Nuke till they open !
WARNING : They most likly be tough !

Better way: Place a frying pan on the stove add about a
1/2 inch of water, cover and steam/boil till they open!

The problem is with the microwave you're cooking the clams (directly by heating the water molecules in the clam) the same time you're boiling the water...Your clams will be very tough. Why not try to improvise something. Maybe foil wrapping them with some (h20 and seasoning) and the using the oven or with a pan of water like above. You'd be way better off with anything but the microwave.

Now you have me thinking of clams :) or more specifically raw little-necks with lemon....

AB steamed crab in a microwave on Good Eats. I think he wrapped it in wet paper towels then in plastic wrap.

SO WHAT? Nobody is asking about crab. You can steam beans in a microwave too - or heat up coffee - or melt butter. ANSWER THE QUESTION.

PLB has 281 posts
Mookahn has one
Ergo Mookhahn is obviously more knowledgeable about posts here than PLB.

RubyRose when you steam clams .......... over hot steaming water/broth (not boiling) all your live clams will open and there juices will drop and add to the broth below. that's for dipping your French bread in............ the clams that did not open you'll discard because they were dead before the steaming. A dead clam is not to be eaten... right lleechef ?
Now, if you microwave a bunch of clams you'll kill most of them before they volunteer to open on there own ......... so you'll never know which ones were dead to begin with......... eat a dead clam you'll be very sick.............

Crab and lobster can be cooked in a microwave............ but you may have a lot of POPING! and they'll taste like rubber. .so why?

All you have to do is note where the mook makes his cyber home and you have a perfect explanation for his, um, behavior.

Right, sizz, a dead clam is NOT to be eaten! I do not use water with my clams.....it's vile and nasty! White wine, garlic, shallots, parsley and a few red pepper flakes. Gently steam them in this and they are wonderful (same thing goes for mussels).

Crudville??? It's appropriate.
