Kielbasa for Breakfast - Wed, 02/28/07 4:08 PM
0

Some of you Roadfooders with European roots will recognize this breakfast of mine. I had it this morning pretty as a picture ........... I could not wait for Easter Morning ............. Freshly smoked Kielbasa sausage has been on my mind since Ash-Wednesday

Yesterday I drove over the Santa Cruz Mts. on to my favorite smoke house..the world famous
Corralitos Market & Sausage Co. http://www.santa-cruz.com/archive/1999/October/13/bay/stories/1bay.htm
Corralitos California.......... which we all know is next to Freedom CA which is next to Watsonville CA which is next to Pajaro CA which is next to Castroville CA which is on the way to Moss Landing and Phil's Fish Market where we had a late lunch of haddock fish and chips.

side bar:.......... It is my opinion that Corralitos Sausage makes the best Polish kielbasa that I have ever eaten .better then my grandpa's homemade and better then any kielbasa in Chicago or on the east coast. Thank you Lord it's so close to me ...."heaven can wait cuz I'm in paradise now."

I've had a kielbasa breakfast of open faced rye smothered in butter, with 3 slices of tomatoe, some onion and sliced peeled keilbasa on top. Great washed down with strong brewed plain sweet tea.

That was my first thought, where’s the kraut? Include that, substitute a can of Coca Cola for the coffee, and it's perfect to me.

I love kielbasa, and it's one of my regular meals. But I've never thought about it for breakfast -- or on a sandwich, for that matter. I'll have to try the sandwich, though. By the way, the kielbasa in that photo looks fantastic.

Frankie boy....................you have this all wrong. You eat the kiebasa with Ukrainian or Polish Easter bread not rye bread. Also, you eat it with red beet horseradish! (not Webbers mustard). At least you did not screw up the cup of coffee! And if you have eggs with it, it has to be hard boiled or stuffed eggs which have been blessed by the priest the afternoon before.

Go to Prague, and substitute the coffee for a Pilsner Urquell, and you've got a normal breakfast.

Scrambled eggs and kielbasa, with homefries and rye toast is always a breakfast favorite. On rt611 in Scottrun Pa they used to serve it right from the stove on a hot skillet.

I was reading this thread and yes my mouth started watering. I'm from Baltimore Maryland. I know that there is somewhere in Maryland that makes fresh kielbasa and polish sausage. Wouls anyone know where that is?

Oh Yummy - thank you for that lovely photo. But at my house, that's lunch (substitute Diet Pepsi for coffee).

I like kielbasa for breakfast when it's fried up in a jajcznica - a cross between an omelet and a frittata. Throw in some mushrooms, a little onion and maybe some fried up potatoes from last night's supper - awesome!

Kielbasa is great anytime but where did you get the Webber's mustard in California? Where are the potato pancakes? It looks wonderful.

SeekerLady,

If you need fresh Kielbasa in Baltimore go no further than the Lexington Market.

If you live south of B'more, "The Butcher's Block has good, homemade Polish sausage. It is in Annapolis.

I had never heard or seen Kielbasa for breakfast, until, I was in Myrtle Beach, SC. A restaurant there offered smoked sausage with eggs, etc. When it arrived the smoked sausage was keilbasa.

I enjoyed it.

I tried to get fancy and insert that weird Polish l in there but the site apparently doesn't interpret extended ASCII characters.

Trish, just line out only the "L" in the word kielbasa it's called strikethrough S........now instead of having a "al" you'll have a "woo"..................... lol

only you and I know what we are talking about ....as our Polish friend Martha would say "That's a good thing"

If you're ever in Grand Rapids MI stop at one of the 2 Real Food Cafe locations and try their West Side Scramble. Big chunks of polish mixed with chunked potatoes, green pepper, tomatoes, onion, cheese and eggs. Along with great homemade bread. To die for.

also check out frank's meat market on west fulton for wonderful polish and try one of their "hot shots" as well

The way I like to serve it is smoked (again) for 4-5 hours using a combination of cherry & apple wood...keeping the temp around 200F.
Slice it & then simmer in baked beans on low for a couple of hours in a crock.
Great place to check out in NH is www.ncsmokehouse.com they do a pretty good mailorder business & you can just go to their store in Claremont. Pretty close to where 89 & 91 meet.
Have never been to the "left coast" to sample....but between North Country Smokehouse & Karls Sausage Kitchen in Saugus, MA...i'm o.k. with hanging out here.

Perkins has kielbasa and eggs on their menu and I had it last Saturday. The Kielbasa was very sweet, unusually so.

No one mentioned making Kielbasa Hash and eggs for breakfast. MMMMMM, how good would that be?

Anyone ever tried it? I may have a project for the weekend!
