Going to be in Philly this week - had my heart set on a cheesesteak - but someone told me to forgo the cheesestaek and have a pork sandwich from DiNics in the Reading Terminal Market -
Any thoughts on this?

I was just at DiNics and had the roast pork. It was great, but in all honesty, the one that I had down the street at Campo's was actually better.

We also had the brisket sandwich at diNic's, which was excellent.

As long as your in the market there, make sure that you stop at Termini Brothers and get a freshly filled cannoli.

If your looking for a roast pork sandwich - go to John's on the corner of Delaware Ave and Snyder Ave in south Philly. They've also got great cheesesteaks as well - it's a little hole in the wall - TRUE roadfood place - you will not be sorry if you go there. I'm originally from Philly/South Jersey and my family still lives/works in that area - they love the place as much as I do. Call ahead for hours if possible - may be closed on sundays

I thought DiNic's was good, but nowhere near John's Roast Pork or the Roast Pork Italian sandwich at Tony Luke's.

I prefer Tony Luke's on Oregon Avenue but you can't beat the total experience of the Reading Terminal Market.

If you have time, get a pork sandwich AND a cheesesteak AND a great hoagie.....Campo's is just a few blocks from the RTM and has wonderful italian hoagies.

All the recommendations so far are good ones....much will depend on your schedule and transportation. If RTM is the only place you will be able to get to, then by all means, DiNic's is your best bet.

There are some great Philly recommendations (with pics) on Holly's site: www.hollyeats.com

I rate the pork and greens sandwiches this way

1. Tony Lukes
2. DiNics
3. John's

For a cheesesteak (which is not my favorite) I would say that Tony Lukes is the very best.

The roast pork sandwich is one of Philly's best kept secrets. Greymo's picks can't be argued with but there are plenty of places to get good roast pork sandwiches. George's in the Italian Market is one. Many people don't know or realize that Pat's has a pretty good roast pork sandwich.
I have a couple of favorites that are in the suburbs: A Cut Above Deli in Newtown Square, Soprano's Deli in Broomall, and a few places in Conshohocken.

So what if Dinic's doesn't have the "best" pork sandwich in Philadelphia. It is still a great sandwich. And, what others have said you can't beat eating at The Reading Terminal.

I also enjoy the beef and brisket sandwiches there. There may be better ones found in the city but 8 times out of 10 I end up at Dinic's when I'm in the Terminal.

Can't argue with anything you've said. I love The Reading Terminal Market and hosted a Roadfood get together there a couple years back and it was very well received.

DiNic's did win Adam Richman's Best Sandwich in America competition - so that is a big deal.  Expect even longer bigger lines.

I wrote about DiNic's six or seven years ago - but spelled it incorrectly (DeNic's).  Wasn't impressed - but perhaps it was just a bad day?    Just seemed "watery" and uneven from bite to bite.  I assumed it was a fluke and have to get back - especially now.

The DeNic's seemed geuninely humbled by the award and seem to be good people - so you have to wish them continued success.

Meanwhile, I have had the Roast Pork Italian at Tony Luke's about 10 times and for my money that could very well be the best sandwich in America - though I do worry about all of the other Tony Luke's that are popping up in the Delaware Valley impacting overall quality.

Feeling adventurous, my wife and I split a roast beef at DiNic's on Friday.  It was very tender, excellent flavor.

DiNic's is good.  John's is better.  My favorite is Tony Luke's.

This is the roast pork Italian with sharp provolone and spinach (under the pork)
