Why do so many steakhouses serve Italian food?

Is it a reflection on the owners, the clientelw, or the era in which they were popularized?

That's not the case here in the Northeast. But on the other hand we do have many Italian spots that do serve a great steak.
I would assume that it's do to the fact that it's an easy side dish, profitable, fast 8min. start to finnish. It also keeps well, todays sauce is just as good 3 days from now. Chow Jim

Yeah, I took Bob to the Dresden Room for dinner the other night. Almost all of our steak places have ravioli and spaghetti, and I was thinking about Jocko's too.

I don't recall any steak houses in Dallas serving Italian food.
Which reminds me, "Steak Pizziaole". What a great steak dish served in almost all the North East Italian restaurants. Never see that dish here in Dallas-in any restaurant!

Here around the Cincinnati area I have seen several steak houses that are now offering italian

The steak house out at the casino in Rising Sun, is promoting it's "New Italian" dishes heavily.

Frank's, my favorite in NYC, has been owned and managed by the same Italian family (name escapes me) for about a century. Makes for some Italian-skewing menu items (fungi porcini trifolati, trippa alla fiorentino) but fortunately they keep the spaghetti off of the dinner plate. Never did understand that one, though I know its a big deal in that Chicago warehouse known as Harry Carey's.

DelMonicos Italian Steak House in Syracuse N.Y. has great steaks & great Italian food & they've been open for years.

In the Northeast at most Italian places you could get a decent steak, and good sides of spaghetti, ravioli etc.

In the Bay Area I would recommend a great Roadfood place that started in 1947 it is Bancheros. http://bancherositaliandinners.com/ As you can see from the menu there is no limit to Steaks and the Italian is about as good American-Italian as it gets.

While you are over in the Hayward area you might also want to check out Val's hamburgers also a gem.

Have you ever been to Italy? While there I had some of the best cuts of meats, steaks, roasts, etc that I have ever eaten.

Tony’s in St. Louis (4 star Italian restaurant) serves great steaks. Of course, dinner there can set you back $80 per person without even trying hard. Definitely not roadfood.

One of the best steak or chop houses I’ve ever been to, though, is Harry Carey’s in Chicago. They have a definite Italian feel to the place, many Italian menu items, and their Chicken Vesuvio is also excellent.

yup, good place. Although I prefer the steaks at Scotch and Sirloin.
So many great italian steakhouses in upstate NY from Syracuse to Utica.

In Seattle, Troiani is the Italian restaurant with an emphasis on steak. It is good certainly, but like the other restaurants in the Paul Mackey "empire" here (the El Gaucho steakhouses) the prices charged make it the sort of place one can go to only very occasionally.

That's odd. I've lived in the northeast most of my life, and I know a number of places that serve beef with a side of pasta, or a regular italian menu. Where I live now, you cannot separate the two.

Spaghetti as a side to steak was pretty common when I was growing up in Rhode Island.

But then, we're talking about a place where spaghetti was also a common side to corned beef and cabbage or lobster, or chow mein.

We have a "Steak and Pasta Works" here, I can't bring myself to go. I want one or the other and would prefer it to be my own. My Mom likes it and it always seems to draw a crowd. I was assuming it was a chain but doesn't appear that way.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe "The Palm" chain of steakhouses have Italian dishes on their menus. I could swear I remember seeing Veal parm on the menu. Can anyone validate this for me?

You are not mistaken. Veal parm and linguini with clam sauce are among the Italian Specialties listed on their "Sample Dinner Menu". From their website ( http://www.thepalm.com/ ):

On a somewhat related topic....When my brother and I were kids, we went on a business trip with my dad and mom to Springfield Mass. All I remember about that trip is swimming in the hotel pool and going to a restaurant where the "Blue Plate Special" was spaghetti and french fries. And yes it came on a blue plate.

1. Bern's SH in Tampa. NOtwithstanding the massive winelist, truly a great operation that knows how to care for great steak.
2. Raindancer in WPB; a one owner place that takes extreme pride in preparing prime rib.
