Astroland is going, but Nathan's, the Cyclone and the Boardwalk are absolutely staying.

Astroland and surrounding area got a 1 year reprieve. Developer and astroland signed a 1 year lease through the 2008 season.

My understanding is that Nathans famous building at Surf Ave will remain regardless of what happens to Astroland.I sure hope that this is preserved, its almost impossible to find any hot dog stands.

I thought Coney Island was being re-purposed to make it more attractive to the Mayor and his friends.

I mean, c'mon, who eats hot dogs when you can go to Le Cirque?

I thought Nathan's on Coney Island was a historical landmark, as is the Cyclone. I grew up going to Coney Island during the summer, so did my parents, grandparents, and great grandparents. So did many, many people. I think if they were going to tear it down a lot of angry people would put a stop to it. It would be nice though if they fixed it up because the last time I went it was really dirty and falling apart. It would be a shame if future generations and someday my future children miss out on something that has been such a beloved place to go for fun and good food.

Well, after our short visit to Brooklyn, my wife and I are planning an extended Brooklyn trip which will include Coney Island and Brighton Beach....phew, just in the nick of time (and almost too late!)

not a huge fan of Nathan's, but I'm sure I'll grad a Nathan's dog when there (when in Rome...)

The Yonkers Nathan's that Buddy Dek mentions isn't worth getting too upset about. It has some charm for kids, because it has a big arcade in the back, but it's really just another Nathans. Maybe for people living in the area for years it has some nostalgia value. It's also a departure point for buses that take people to Atlantic City, so those will have to find another parking lot to leave from.

I don't think the Coney Island Nathans is going anywhere. Especially tith the popularity of the hot dog contest, Nathan's will be there long into the future.
