I notice on the west coast almost all burgers are served in a "burger diaper" does anyone know how theses are folded? The burger appears half in the wrapper and half out.

Place the upside down burger halfway onto the paper, bring in the right corner, bring in the left corner, pull up the bottom, flip it over and plate it.

Hodad's was on the Drive-In and Dive show the other night and they made a point of showing the wrap. It's designed to show the customer what he's getting. I guess it's a left coast thing, but I like seeing what I'm getting. However, the Hodad's multi-tatooed and multi-punctured crew could cover up quite a bit though. I'm not fond of all that exposed "artwork" with my kitchen help.

Enginecapt has it down. I didn't know this packaging was unique out here on the Left Coast, assumed it was a national trend. They're doing this everywhere here, guess it is supposed to show you that's it's really a burger but not expose the whole thing.

Can't remember the last time Kansas City was on the left coast www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Photo.aspx?RefID=2641&PhotoID=5956

I wasn't impressed with their onion rings though. What would you recommend for a good burger joint, so I know the next time I'm in Kansas City (which will probably be next spring)- I can never turn down a good burger in "Cow Country"!

I'm sure Bill Voss would concur, the place I go to get a real KC sort of burger is Town Topic. 19th and Baltimore or Southwest Blvd and Broadway. I've never been able to get a burger quite like Town Topic any where else. They are hand formed, fresh and unique to KC. I've never had the onion rings there (in all the years I've been going!), but the fries are skinny and crispy.

The burger appears half in the wrapper and half out. I don't see this as a California thing. I've had burgers all over wrapped this way. Here in Dallas, all the drive-in burger joints do it. Most notably, Keller's Drive In.

Last week McDonalds new Angus burger(6oz)came wrapped in the burger diaper. Not a bad idea for some who hold their burgers with a napkin or are germaphobic,to me its just extra paper.

I always wear a burger diaper as extra protection after a long night of drinking and eating too many White Castles!

Some burgers, like Hodad's, are too messy to eat without a wrap on 'em.

I always thought it was so they would be less messy or something.
