Whiskey's Restaurant Lawrenceburg Indiana

Went to Lawrenceburg to go to the Argosy Casino, but had a late lunch at Whiskey's. Good food ~ neat place.









I didn't have the pork tenderloin. The menu says it comes with sauteed onions and peppers.

"Whisky's Family Restaurant" is kind of an oxymoron. But it entices me to visit Lawrenceburg. I didn't see the pork tenderloin on that menu. Was it a special and was it a sandwich? I could go with sauteed onions and peppers. If it were not on the regular menu I could be satisfied with those fried green tomatoes and a bowl of jambalaya.

They do have a larger menu on the table, with sandwiches, pastas, etc. The pork tenderloin is always on that menu.

We will be in Ohio at Hocking Hills in mid May and then kill some time before heading to the Indy 500. Clifty Falls State Park just may be the ticket. This place is in range.

If you are coming from hocking hills and going to stay at clifty falls whiskeys is about 80 minutes from Clifty.

Let me know when you pass by, you go right through my home town, or we could meet up at whiskeys.

The picture of the dining room with the Seagram's bottle on the ceiling, is the restaurant not smoke-free or just plain haunted? ZOINKS!!

I don't know about Smokefree, but Lawrenceburg is the home of a VERY LARGE Seagrams Distillery!

We were home to a VERY big Seagrams location, they have been sold and announced last fall that 2008 would be their last year producing whiskey here in whiskey city.

The recent news is that the storage yards out in Milan, Indiana have been sold and will still be used as an aging facility.

The actual distillery is being retooled to make bitters and other products. They have laid off LOTS of the workforce and upper management.

The restaurant was originally two houses that later become a button factory. There was an old lady that lived in the house and died in a room that is now called the "Malt Room".

There are several reports about the "Lady Ghost".

There was one report where the ghost tugged at the waitress's apron and she thought that it was another server but no one was standing behind her, another incident was the manager was sitting in the bar after the restaurant closed and smelled a strong scent of perfume coming from the back of the restaurant and nobody was in there but her.

True Story from a generation back... I lived just inside the Clark County line near New Washington (ex is still there). One evening a tank truck full of Gin from another facility was on its way to Lawrenceburg to have it's cargo of spirits bottled at the plant there. The driver took a dinner break at the little cafe in New Washington (pop.600). While he was in the cafe someone stole his truck and the booze. The police found the truck and trailer in a field near Marble Hill,(about 5 miles from the scene of the crime) about 12 hours later. The trailer was bone dry and the field was destroyed by what appeared to be the tracks of at least a hundred different vehicles. It was claimed that the cargo was at least 10,000 gallons of Gin. No clue as to who might have been involved ever escaped the community .
There are hundreds of stories in the "Naked Country", This is one of them!

That must have put a damper on off-premis alcohol sales in the area for quite some time, not to mention the still operators. Chow Jim

There were lots of "clues"...crooked furrows in a lot of cornfields, an odd odor in the chemistry lab at the High School after the Bunsen Burners had been used for the day,...and a lot of tractors running 'rough'. I had heard that the local Krogers ran out of stuffed-green olives quickly, every time they stocked the shelves (but that might just be a rumor).

To return to topic. I think the Clifty Falls St Park is one of the nicest in the state. I hope you will pay it a visit when in the Ohio River Valley next Spring.

Though I've not been to Whiskey's in a while, I use to eat there once or twice a week (I'm never down that way anymore).

Can't remember ever being disappointed!

Madison, Indiana is one of my favorite small cities in the country. We have lots of family living in Vevay and we would always stay at that big hotel on the hill overlooking the town. And every trip would always include a visit to Clifty Falls State Park.

The last time through that area in 2005, the hotel looked in disrepair, but Madison itself was as lovely as ever.

Goley's Orchard has some great apples and cider right now.

The trees (the ones that werent dried out from the drought) are starting to turn colors.

Yeah, "Come On Down" (as some Airline used to say!). In my first life here in Hoosierland We were about 10 miles from Madison, downriver. Our return in 2000 put us a bit further downriver, on the west side of Louisville.
One of the most beautiful views of the Ohio River is from an overlook located on the Hanover College campus, just west of Madison.

Hanover, you may recall, was the fictional home of "Woody, the Bartender" in the Cheers TV Show. His comments on the rivalry between his hometown of Hanover, and French Lick was very funny.

Truth is, the two towns are about 90 miles apart, and as different as salt and pepper. Hanover is a small college town built around the residential college that occupies the central area on the bluff overlooking the river. It is very New English in appearance.

French Lick on the other hand is isolated in the Hoosier National Forest and Patoka Lake Recreational area. Well known as a turn-of-the-century health spa and tourist attraction that had faded from the headlines over the years. It is enjoying a comeback of sorts with the opening of Indiana's first "dryland" Casino and the Total Renovation of the Spa and Hotel that used to attract trainloads of Chicago's society to its salons.

Clifty Falls State Park was a park we visited often when I was a kid. This year we camped in Indiana Dunes, Pokagon and Brown County State Parks. The campground facilities were excellent in all three. Indiana Dunes was absolutely super in that it was all new with perfectly level concrete pad sites for RVs.
