Nan-Sea's in Mobile closed
-
Wed, 11/14/07 2:37 PM
This is kind of late, but thought it was still worth mentioning. I ate at Nan-Sea's restaurant, which appeared in Eat Your Way Across the USA, located in Mobile in 2000. I had a terrific seafood meal, highlighted by my first taste of West Indies Salad. When I was in Mobile about a month ago, I tried to find Nan-Sea's, but was unsuccessful. I wrote the Mobile Chamber of Commerce, who confirmed to me that Nan-Sea's was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. They apparently also have no plans to rebuild. Too bad. Yet another really good Roadfood place I will miss.

B-buster, I live in Mobile and noticed about a month ago that Nan-Seas (Nancy's)is re-opening in a new location. The former Lakeside Lodge in west Mobile will be the new location. I drove by recently and there was a large sign in front for future home of Nan-Seas. The location is on Cody road between Cottage Hill Rd. and Airport Blvd. near Providence Hospital. An easy way to get there, if you're not familiar, would be to take Airport Blvd. to Cody. It will be about a half mile on the right. John.

John- You made my day! This is good news. According to what the helpful lady at the Chamber of Commerce wrote, they had been damaged from hurricanes several times and were unlikely to reopen. I'm glad they are going to make another go of it. Much appreciate the information! Any chance you could let us know when they reopen?

Guys, Should this be a potential stop for the February "Glee Club" visit to Mobile?? If we knew about the place....and if it will be open by President's Day (Mid-February 2008) It "might-could" be included. AL

AL Still not 100% sure if I'm going yet, but I think it should be included along with Wintzell's.

Al- In its previous incarnation, it was definitely worthy of being included. Really good seafood and a terrific West Indies Salad. Hopefully when they reopen, they won't have made too many changes.

For the best seafood in Mobile - my recommendation is The Mariner Restaurant it is located at: 6036 Rock Point Road they are open 7 nights a week starting at 5:30 pm. They have the BEST service & food by far!

Good news! Nan-Sea's has indeed reopened! I drove past the new place this morning. I would have loved to have stopped in for a West Indies Salad, but I ran out of time while in Mobile. The correct address is: Nan-Sea's 650 Cody Road S. Mobile, AL 36695 251-342-1353 Hours: (as of 2/17/08) M-Sat 5:00PM - 9:00PM Sunday 11:00AM - 8:00PM
