The tour will take place on April 26, 2008. It will be an expedition from Austin, Texas, out into barbecue country and back again. More info - http://www.roadfood.com/store/eatingtour.aspx

But wait, there's more! The evening before, Friday, April 25th, the Roadfood.com team will host a get-together at the legendary Threadgill's restaurant and beer hall. It will be an opportunity for everyone to get acquainted (or reacquainted) and to share one of Texas's most gigantically good meals. More info - http://www.roadfood.com/store/threadgills.aspx

Tickets will go on sale to Roadfood Insiders on December 11 at 1 PM EST, and to everyone else (you must be a Roadfood.com registered user) on December 13th at 1 PM EST. As has been customary, Roadfood Insiders will get first crack at the available tour seats (which this year will be half as many as previous tours because it will be one continuous trip rather than two). Tickets will be available via a hot link on the Roadfood.com home page.

Act fast and plan ahead! Last year's event sold out in days.

Just to clarify, the $125 is for the bus ride and the book only. All meals and drinks will be extra, right?

Excellent choices on the restaurants for this year's tour. My cousin Johnny and I already have our plane reservations made.

Seeing the above posters say they are planning on being there makes me look forward to it even more! Who else is planning on going?

As much as we'd like to go -- since we'd be going for a 3-year-in-a-row streak -- this may be cost-prohibitive. Why the $125 ticket price? Previous years were only around $50.

I'm disappointed to hear you most likely won't be there. How come we didn't meet on the last two tours? Or did we talk and I didn't realize who you were like I did with Rick F.?

I'm assuming the big difference in the cost this year is that the bus will be traveling a much bigger distance between restaurants.

The cost has gone up for several reasons. First, rising fuel costs have increased the cost of renting a bus. Second, we are going to have a bus for a full day - instead of the usual 4 hours.

We fully understand this could price some people out of the eating tour, but unfortunately it's the most cost effective way we could tour the Hill Country as a group. As an alternative, we added an all inclusive Friday evening event for $42 which should appeal to those with a more restrictive budget.

Stephen - For my planning purposes and to make sure I understand...When tickets go on sale, is it a six ticket per purchase maximum and will I need to have names at that moment when purchasing of others in my party? thanks - Gregg

Oneiron, I hope you're planning on hitting some RF places in Hawaii. We certainly did two summers ago and are still talking about them! Email me through the site for our top picks if you're interested.

I know we make and pay for our own hotel reservations, however, is there one pick-up point for the bus tour that we have to get ourselves to and from, or does the bus pickup and drop off everyone at their hotels?

Thanks,

please count me in , as well !!

ellen in AC ..

it should be about the best $125 I ever spent!!

I know what you mean about rising fuel costs..

the AC airport is only 5 miles away from my condo, and I called a taxi to see how much it would cost..
it's $20.00 these days; about a few years ago it was more like $12.00

this is all just the cost of doing business...

You don't need to have the names. It's like a restaurant reservation, I hold one name and a party count.

We are working on a pick-up point. It will probably be at a downtown hotel where we are negotiating a special rate.
