There were two (2) local bakeries back in my hometown- Spiesmann's and Ketterer's....I think both are still in operation today, at least they were 8 years ago when we last visited- their Danish coffee cakes were to die for....in fact I brought some back with me on the plane. There is nothing like them in Big D- I know, I have searched high and low. And hard rolls- real hard rolls....oh, the memories, cause there is nothing here that comes close to a real HARD roll here in Big D either!

If you are very in Chicago and want some great bakery goods... DINKEL's on Lincoln Ave is the BEST!

Just what is an old fasioned bakery? We have many old bakery's that only do bread and others that just do pastry. I can't walk by any of them. Chow Jim

The emphasis seems to be on pasticcerias/patisseries/pastry-shops, as opposed to breadmaking.
