Rein's Deli in Vernon Ct.

Any opinions on this place. I go when heading up the Turnpike and have enjoyed it. It's always crowded but it seems to be a consistently good.

We have eaten here for 20 years as it is on the way to family in PA from Boston. It is good but not great. The pickles and cole slaw are very good. the service is very good. the stuffed cabbage and those type dishes are pretty good. the desserts are disappointing. the deli meats are good but not great. worth a stop if you're passing but not a special trip, imo. beth

I always found it dissappointing.

There are so many better "Connecticut Regional Specialties" to check out.

Rein's was always just in the right place to stop & eat when we were returning home to the Hudson Valley from Boston, where my daughter attended college.
The food was not awe-inspiring, but it was consistently adequate.
At least it was better than the Mass Pike "rest stop" fast food choices- consistently awful.

if you're going to order a sandwich, order a "fressier" sp? which is extra meat, maybe 1/3 lb total, but well worth it. nothing like NYC delis.

Go to Shady Glen in Manchester instead.

I've been spoiled growing up on Long Island. When I used to pass throught he Hartford area on I84, I always used to stop at Tasty Chick in Vernon. They had really good homemade chicken pot pie. I haven't been there in 5 years but I have a feeling they're out of business now.

I stopped there last Sat morning at 7 am, as I was driving from Bradley Airport to Boston. I had a pastrami omelet, which pretty much fits everyone's description -- adequate, but no real reason to eat it. However, I also ordered a smoked sturgeon appetizer (since I don't see sturgeon very often) and it was fantastic! Sweet, smoky, tender, moist--but not overly oily. Perfectly complemented with the onion and tomato on the plate. Would be great on a bagel (which I don't eat...)

There are better alternatives in Vernon and Manchester.
i agree that Rein's is good for where it is but wouldn't aurvive where real Deli is understood and appreaciated.
About a mile from Reins, however, is a BBQ joint called Little Mark's

It's about the best BBQ in CT which isn't saying much but they have multiple sauces, good pork and very good ribs.
Suffice to say that Little Mark's is better BBQ than Reins is Deli.

Then, as reported, there's the Shady Glenn...about four miles from both and unique, incredible burgers.
A bit further on, in East Hartford on 603 Burnside Avenue, is a wonderful jerk chicken and pork takeout called "Peppers, Jamaican bakery"...delicious CocoBread (Bimini Bread) and a great pig in a blanket made with cocbread called a cocobite.

All are close to 84 and ez on and off.
It all depends on what you're in the mood for when you get off the highway
