Can't believe it has been 6 months since I looked at this thread. A few pieces of bad news. Francis Restaurant has closed and its wonderful grits are gone. A Taste of Europe's has closed and and its wonderful Cevapi sandwiches have disappeared from the Portland food scene. Dave Lafollette's Back to the Grind Expresso still exists but you can't get get Cinncinatti style chile there anymore.

Hey Mr Chips and other Portland-fan roadfooders. My daughter lives in Portland and when QFan and the Mrs last visited (this past Sep) she took us to an wonderful Mexican restaurant called Autentica on NE 30th St. Small and homey w/ a courtyard in the back where we ate. QFan has eaten Mexican all across the country for many years and will chase after it (along w/ que) anywhere on the road. This was absolutely some of the freshest, most authentic mex I have ever tried anywhere. As if that wasn't good enough to make it special, had a couple of the best margarita's I have ever tasted. Can't wait to get back to Portland for a follow-up visit!!!

EAT--An Oyster Bar on N. Williams has a wonderful Shrimp 'n' Grits... Driven in twice from the 'burbs and can't bring myself to order anything else (well, except the beignets)...

This is a hole in the way Salvadorian place with the best pupusas in Portland. my favorite is the chicken and lorocco combination but I have yet to eat one that is not good. Combine it with latino soda and it is a wonderful cheap treat.

I was wrong about one restaurant. The grocery store "A Taste of Europe " has closed. The owner opened a soccer bar there called "Club 442" and still serves the most excellent cevapi sandwiches.

(56)  Hungry Heart
This is a food-cart-truck that has  tasty cupcakes. The Traveling Man(TTM) sent me this recommendation and it was a good one. I had a peanut butter frosting cupcake with a bacon topping that should be world famous, a lemon curd marionberry  number that was sweet and savory and a raspberry. This woman knows her cupcakes. I know you can find her open on Thurdays and Saturdays and the best place to find where she is is on facebook. Make the effort. It is worth it.

Wayne's Red Hots, Portland's home for Chicago-style dogs with lots of chicago memorabilia and old Style beer has closed. the owner had medical problem that made it impossible to continue. This is a great loss to the portland food scene. Nobody should come to portland for a Chicago style dog but it was a wonderful option for those of us who live here. damn!

Okay--so this place is not "Roadfood," but it has one of the best desserts I've ever had (Boccone Dolce), and one would be hard-pressed not to find something fabulous in their cases.  http://www.papahaydn.com/dessert.php

I went to this location:  701 NW 23rd Ave, Portland, OR 97210

Pogophiles, I loved that clip and really love the shoe Portlandia. It is a witty satire on portland and its quirks done in a spirit of good fun.
TTM The waffle Window is great and I'm looking forward to our visit this weekend.
