In the beverage forum we've been talking about the fack that Schlitz Beer is back in its old formula for us baby boomers...Got me to thinking...if you could encourage companys to bring back long gone products from ages ago we miss and love...what would you most want returned.
I've heard that a candy long gone, Bonomo's turkish Taffe is making a comeback, and mostly because people have been begging for its return. I'll welcome it back...even "Fizzies" from the 50's have made a comeback....and Nedick's Orange soda is sold in New York again!!
Can "Cocoa Marsh" chocolate syrup, my 50's favorite be far behind?? Or Post "Pep" Flakes? If you had a company's ear, what product would you beg to have put back on the shelves????

My choice would be Merri-Mints, which have been featured in a Roadfood thread with 300+ posts and 35,000+ views. That would make a lot of people happy.

I vote for Eagle Snacks. Eagle Potato Chips, White Cheddar Popcorn, almonds, etc. I really miss them.

Jello 123!!! God, I loved that stuff growing up. I used to eat it layer by layer. I would never just dive right into eat. I was an odd child! They brought back jello pudding pops, but they aren't like the one's I grew up with. Also, I wish they brought back the jello fruit bars. Those were so good!

Taco bell Cinnamon Chips. I don't really care for taco bell, but my friends and I would go there on our lunch break at school, it was the closest thing around. I got addicted to them. Now they have cinnamon twists that I can't stand.

Oreo big stuff

Dunkin Donuts Cereal

O Boise's sour cream and onion potato skin chips

Almost Home Cookies- My mom doesn't cook, so when my grandmother couldn't make it to a school bake sale, my mom passed them off as her own! They were good though!

Ecto Cooler

Whistle Pops

Five Alive juice

Cheese Tid Bits

Nerds cereal

Hi-C Candy Apple Cooler

Ice Cube chocolates

Pop Tarts cereal

Gingerbread Ice cream sandwhiches

Frosted Rice Krispies

Oatmeal Swirlers

Microwable cake mix- don't remember who made it but I beleive there was a german chocolate and pineapple upside down cake. Both were so yummy!

And my number one Franco American Macaroni and Cheese. My mom and grandmother would go to Bingo like, 5 days a week and leave me with my grandfather and this was the only food I would eat for him. It was the best!

And yes, I was a child of the 80's!

It seems like every gas station and mini-mart in this state has a plastic
tub of Ice Cubes next to the register for .25/ea. Where are you at querty79?

I say bring back Nabisco Swiss Cheese crackers! And Bacon Thins too, while you're at it!

drummagick- I live in Florida now, which is why I don't see them down here. They would melt too fast! When I lived on Long Island, I only saw them a few places. That was just a few years ago, but I've seen a lot more when I was younger. I've seen them for sale online, but you have to buy a whole tub of them.

And I second the motion to bring back the bacon thins and swiss cheese crackers! Yumm!

Eagle snacks are still around. I talked to a rep at a career fair just last week about positions with them, and she gave me a bag of the white cheddar popcorn. Man, is that stuff addictive!

My favorite cookie to take to school in the early 50's was a Nabisco cookie made with two vanilla wafers with a marshmallow in the middle..I think it disappeared in the 70's. Mine came in a narrow box..with one row of the cookies..just enough for a growing kids snack with a school container of milk! They were called Marshmallow Sandwich cookies

I was just at super walmart the other day and was down the cookie and cracker aisle. I noticed that they had walmart brand bacon crackers. I didn't buy them as I only had limited funds with me at the time. Has anyone tried them? Are they like the bacon thins?

Oh, and someone told me about Dr. Oetker gelatin that is like jello 123. I looked it up online and it kind of looks like jello 123. I haven't seen it in any stores though, but you can buy it online from them or from hometown favorites. I'll have to order some and try it out.

Original peanut butter Twix (not the new "PB Twix" with the nasty chocolate cookie layer) - that was my favorite candy bar of all time, until they disappeared from shelves last year. Guess I'll just have to make my own now!

efuery,
Wow! That's one flavor of theirs that I missed that I reallllly would like to have tried.
The Ben & Jerry's flavor that I miss the most is their one-up peanut butter flavor (it's not resting in their Departed Flavor Graveyard on their website!) that was a benefit to Tuskegee University. I must have eaten 25 cartons of the stuff, both because I loved it and because I wanted to help Tuskeegee rebuild their Old Main Building that was ruined in a fire about 15 years ago.

I was going to say Summit Candy Bars but stricken detective beat me to it!

Also, Jello 1-2-3 - loved it.

Shasta apple soda.

Real Cadbury chocolate - they've changed it and it's not as good any more.

Hood Cherry Amaretto Sherbet, and Mint Chippety Chocolaty ice cream.

The animal-shaped soap that grew fuzz.

The brownie mix that had the layer of truffle on top.

The carrot cake mix that had the bag of dried fruit that you soaked in boiling water before adding it to the batter.

HotDogHead- I know what you mean. I tried the Chef Boyardee one and it's just not the same. The Franco American one had really long noodles and a pale yellow sauce. I remember being in my highchair eating it and sharing it with my dog( I always got in trouble for this).

How about the giant size Nabisco Shredded Wheat in those oblong boxes with layers of cardboard between the shredded wheat...in the fifties those cards had sports figures and such printed on them and they were highly collectable!

I agree with the Noodles Romanoff. I also really miss a cookie from the 50's - not sure how long they were around, but they were a cookie covered with a mound of marshmallow with a spoonful of jelly inside. The whole thing was dipped in chocolate. Can't remember the name - can anyone help me with this?

I'm 99% sure we still get those here (New England). At the very least I know we get the British version of that, which is alive and well in the UK in several flavors of jelly. Next time I go to the supermarket I'll make a mental note of the name for you!

For my missing item wish:

Any west coasters remember KOALA drinks?? They had them in the late 80s in the Bay Area. I know they didn't have them on the east coast because my old boyfriend was so upset about not getting them when he went back to MA & NY.

My favorite was Orange Passion Fruit. It was way WAY better than the stuff you get now (NAntucket Nectars etc). Less sweet and better flavor. They also did a great Orange Mango. I wouldn't be surprised if Snapple & Nan/Nectars bought 'em out or ran 'em out of business. But they were so much better than either. Nice simple packaging too. I would love love love to be able to have those back.

hatteras04- I have bought the frozen five alive juice only once recently and can't remember where I bought it. Even growing up it was hard to find in supermarkets on Long Island. My cousins in CT would come down during the summer to go on my Grandfather's boat and they would alway's bring five alive juice boxes. It was a special treat for me and my brother.

Jello brought back pudding pops not to long ago. I think good humor makes it. Most of the stores by me(FL) carry it.

I just looked up pudding pops and found out that popsicle makes them not good humor. However, I went to the popsicle website and they were nowhere to be seen. I wonder if their not making them anymore. I also found that Kemps makes pudding pops, not jello brand though. I don't know where to get them, but I sent them an email. I'll see if they get back to me.

Around 1994-1995 when the whole fat-free thing exploded, there was a brand of potato chips, Louise's, and they were allegedly fat free. They were not half bad, I liked how crunchy they were. One of the flavors was Maui Onion? Anyone?

Vegetable Thins crackers. And the six pack of frozen cupcakes that used to be available the freezer aisle. My dad used to but them all the time: one with strawberrry icing, one with orange icing, one vanilla, one chocolate, and one coconut, and I forget the last one.

I can't believe it's taken me this long to post about these:

Cheez Kurls. Chicken & Cheese flavored. Oh yeah.

The year was 1990, they could be found in the snack aisle at Walgreens. I was in HS & this was a very good treat. The chicken flavor was subtle, but good

^^that is the same company, the logo is the same as on the bags back then. I haven't seen them since.

Wild & Mild Ranch Fritos
Cookies & Creme Twix

Jay's Calypso chips, bright magenta bag, slighty hot & sweet chips

I wish they would bring back:

Mint flavored Snapple

Carnation Breakfast Bars

Original Taco flavored Doritos

Merry Mint Cookies- these were sold around Christmas time and I believe made by Archway. They were round and white with peppermint in them. I have looked for years in many different states and cannot find them.

Assorted Puffs-These came frozen-three sheets-one was bacon, one was cheese and one was onion. You baked them and they "rose" and they broke off into little squares to eat- I cannot remember who made these. Last time I saw these was the mid 1990's.
