New York State Barbecue Championship - Thu, 05/1/08 4:14 PM

Please use the link below to read about the first New York State Barbecue Championship okayed by Gov. David Paterson and sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society. It's entitled the Troy Pig Out.

I can't wait till July and hope all you BBQ competitors from all over will come to the Capital District.

The Highland, NY Rotary club has run a very successful BBQ contest at the New Paltz Fairgrounds for the past three years. I think they had about 60 contesting teams last year, and the venue has gotten better every year. I hope we'll be able to get to the one in Troy (as eaters, not BBQrs), especially if it attracts contestants from far and wide.

Cheers, John

If the previous NY Governor had been involved, I'm sure he would have insisted they include a "Miss Pig Out" Bikini Contest!

Besides Sayville, I think there are 2 more NEBS events on Long Island this year, Sheepshead Bay and Oyster Bay.

That sounds like something an "avid regionalist" would say. pb

You're thinking of NY as a whole being like NYC. But the state is a completely different animal from the city as far as people go

One requires waves...the other requires, heat, smoke, seasonings and pork...all of which are very portable..

So, your saying that, "upstate" BBQ is different from "NYC" BBQ? And then of of course you have your, Long Island style BBQ.

I Love BBQ Festival - Lake Placid, NY, July 4, 2008 (http://www.ilbbqf.com)
Troy Pig Out, Troy NY, July 18, 2008
Hudson Valley Ribfest, New Paltz, August 15, 2008 (http://www.hudsonvalleyribfest.org)
Oinktoberfest, Clarence, NY, Sept. 26, 2008 (http://www.oinktoberfest.com/)
Battle of the BBQ Brethren, Sayville, NY, Oct 25,08(http://www.greatersayvillechamber.com/events.htm)

And there's the events that are just for fun.

Is this worth the two and a half hour drive from Montreal to head down July 4th weekend this summer?

Oliver,
I can't tell you if it is or isn't...since this is a first for the area....my folks are coming to town and hate crowds...so I probably will not attend (was planning to until they decided to come). If it's anything like the chowder festival held in Troy last year...they were sold out after 90 minutes....

It's up to you to decide...especially with the price of gas etc.....
