This weekend is the Gold Coast BBQ and Music Festival in Oxnard, CA. It's at the Channel Islands Harbor, a fun place (and home of the only chili cookoff I've ever won!). It's a statewide event sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society. Categories include brisket, pork shoulder, chicken, pork ribs, and a separate category for tri-tip (this is CA after all!).
